So, as soon as Sophie got the ok from her vet at 16 weeks to start daycare, I started sending her 2 days a week and she seemed to love it. After just one week, she came home with a terrible cough hacking up stuff every 15-20 minutes and through the night. I took her to vet, she has upper respiratory infection. She’s on cough pills and antibiotic. She’s on home quarantine for 14 days. They said she can catch it again when she goes back. Now I don’t know if I should find another daycare or if this is going to just always be a problem. hiw many of your dogs that get boarded or use daycare have been sick with cough multiple times? When I have to go back into the office, I have to send her somewhere for at least the next few months!
Kennel cough is everywhere at the moment, and they are talking about renaming it, as dogs can easily catch it whilst playing out on a walk, nit just in a kennel. Any close contacts can transfer it. Did the vet not offer you the vaccine? Does not give total protection, like any vaccine, but a good bit of reassurance!
Supposedly she did get the vaccine but I'm a bit upset with my vet and am changing to another. The vet herself is great, but the front office and vet techs are a nightmare. The sticker from her kennel cough vaccine was "missing" from her file, so the vet was concerned she didn't get it. She left the room, came back and said "oh she got it, they forgot to put the sticker on there" I find it odd that sticker was missing and my puppy got kennel cough in her first visit to daycare! I've had other issues, they told me she tested positive for giardia, then gave me 2 meds last time for her. When I brought back a stool sample, the vet tech asked what for and I said it was to test that her gardia is gone. The vet tech said she never had it. I then asked why she was given meds. The vet came in and told me she did have it, and sorry for the confusion. They gave me 3 doses of de-wormer when I first got her and had her puppy exam, but they never checked to make sure they were gone. I'm changing to another vet next month. I don't trust anything they tell me so I'm doubtful she got this vaccine.
No, they took her in the back for her shots. I don’t even know which version she got. I’m having her medical records transferred to a new vet next week.
Kennel cough is all over the place right now, and there's talk about renaming it because dogs may acquire it when playing outside on a stroll, not only in a kennel. It can be passed on to anyone with whom you have a close relationship. Wasn't the immunization offered to you by the veterinarian? Like any vaccination, it does not provide complete protection, but it does provide some confidence!
