Hi all! I just found out that my puppies sire had moderate hip dysplasia. I’m taking her to the vet to determine if this will be an issue for her as well. I can’t find any info on moms hips, but it appears that both of moms parents were scored as good. Assuming mom is good as well, what is the likelihood that my puppy will have hip dysplasia given dads rating of moderate? Thanks!

Hello, I am no expert but as you know hip dyplasia is hereditary and thats why only dogs with low hips scores are encouraged to be bred from. I would supect there is a significant risk. I think anyone would would not buy a pup knowing one parent has hip dyplasia . If only one parents set of scores were important, both parents would not be part of the screening programme. Presumably you did not know both parents hip scores prior to buying your pup ? Fingers crossed your pup has not inherited this condition. and hope your vet can give you some better expert advice.

Thank you for your response! Yes, that’s correct. I was not aware of dads scoring of moderate before getting my puppy. The OFA site lists dad as being about 2 and a half at the time of testing, so I’m not sure if that should make me any more concerned. Hoping for the best!

Another question. Today she was running around and suddenly yelped in pain and started holding her left leg/hip weird (I will attach a short video). I’m not sure if she hit her leg on something because she walked weird for a couple minutes and was fine, but could this be a potential indication of hip dysplasia?
