Molly's just come into season for the first time at 10 months old. Do you think dogs experience 'period pains'? For the last few days she's been demanding food but then refusing it. This morning there are 3 dog biscuits sitting uneaten on the floor! I wonder if she thinks it's a hunger pang and then realises it's not.
Re: In season I'm not sure about period pains, but they definitely get PMS so it's possible! Their appetite can also decrease I think so this may explain the unbeaten biscuits.
Re: In season Female dogs on heat often seem to suffer from mood swings as well as changes in appetite. They also sometimes wee more, or less, than usual. Just be kind but brisk, if you see what I mean. Be nice to her of course, but don't over-indulge her. Try to take her mind off things - if you have a garden or other secure area, a game of ball will help her concentrate on something other than feeling off colour! Hang in there - it's only a few weeks
Re: In season Harley was 10 months old when she came into season. Her appetite was very up and down during her season (23 days of bleeding ). I didn't find that she wee'd any more than usual. She was a lot more tired and at times lethargic (it was very hot). Good luck
Re: In season I hope Molly will cope with her season. Hattie was very off her food and very clingy but she was fine. She had two seasons then we got her spayed xx
Re: In season Yes , Millie was the same , became a velcro dog and wasnt bothered about her food, unless Sam looked at it
Re: In season Tuppence has been a velcro dog too, now in her 3rd week. She had three 'accidents' in the house a few days ago too (and in her bed), making her look very sad and guilty - which was how I noticed the accidents! Fortunately the incontinence seems to have been only for a day or two, though. It's her first season and I'm intending to have her spayed.
Re: In season I intend to have Molly spayed too. The younger vets at the practice I go to advise spaying before the first season. However the senior vet gave me a balanced overview of the pros and cons of early and later spaying and finally, when I pushed him, said that if it was his dog he'd let her have a season first. Molly's been very clean today, licking so no dripping! She's also bounced back and decided this evening she should make up for all the food she'd refused earlier.
Re: In season Good to hear she's a bit more herself tonight all of my vets said wait until after her first season which we have done. Harley is being spayed in September
