    Good Morning

Can anyone advise please what to do with a gunky eye? It just seems gunky, not red, and he has been swimming a couple of times this week so I'm guessing it may be from that?

I don't want to trot off to the vets for every little thing if I can sort it myself, and on a couple of older forum posts I have read about people using tea bags for bathing eyes, what exactly do you do with them, do you use the actual tea bag or the tea infused water, and does it work?

    Thanks for your help!

I would use some lukewarm water to bathe it, maybe two or three times a day over the weekend and if it hasn't cleared up after a couple of days or begins to look worse such as red or sore then maybe give the vet a call.

You can use human 'infected eye' drops for dogs. My Callum needed them a few times for gunky eyes.

(Just don't tell the pharmacist it's for a dog!)

I've used tea bags for Molly and found they helped. I soaked teabags, let the water cool, then dipped cotton wool in it to wipe the eye, a fresh piece for each eye. They cleared up in a few days. Molly's weren't itchy which is why I thought they weren't infected.

I also used to use the cooled used tea bags, always did the trick , as long as any discharge isnt greenish, if it is then it could indicate infection, so a trip to the Vets might be necessary for antibiotic drops :)

Great, thanks all, will try the tea bags and we have a vets appointment on Tuesday anyway for a 6 month check so if it hasn't done the trick I'll get some drops then!

I've bathed Dexter's eyes with cooled boiled water and a cotton wool pad.his first year while he was 'growing into his face ' we had a couple of sore eye episodes and my vet advised me to get some tears au naturelle which I believe is a very mild saline solution to just to keep them lubricated x

    ;D ;D ;D Snap!

I just wipe Charlie's eyes with plain water after each walk. Just removing the dust and pollen from around his eyes helps, I think.
