Lady has found every one of our ample supply of tennis balls. A good time is if the river has been overflowing its banks and a wander along the edge of the flood line usually yields one or two. Out on the walk this morning, Lady suddenly goes into hunting mode and trots off to the side of the path going upwind through the long grass for quite a long way then pounces. Woohoo! Another one! Her amazing sense of smell always impresses me. She comes trotting back so pleased with herself and presents me with another one for the collection. ;D

The only thing Sam has ever found was a rolled up very good umberella , he went into the rough at the woods and came out with it , I often wonder about that umberella , how it got there

They go out and find a tennis ball just outside the back door can't believe their luck no hunting necessary. Disappointingly they also disappear if left behind. No its not the tennis ball fairy it's pip from across the yard. He dumps his ball anywhere if something better should come along. ;D

Re: Do you find you really don't need to buy tennis balls? Holly is really good at finding tennis balls. Sometimes when we're walking she just appears with a ball in her mouth. This begs the question: who is losing all those tennis balls that she finds?
Re: Do you find you really don't need to buy tennis balls? Obviously people that don't have labs We've come home a few times with tennis balls - Penny scoops them up in the park and won't surrender them until we get home and she's chewed them up, but she won't chew up her own.

Walking along the footpath next to the golf course she sometimes finds several on one walk. When she was a puppy I was worried she would choke on them as she wasn't too keen to hand them over but now she is happy to exchange them for a treat. The charity shop does very well. Alice

Re: Do you find you really don't need to buy tennis balls? Cookie constantly keeps coming back with a new tennis ball in his mouth. Some of them are really worn out, so we don't take them. We also lose some when we play fetch in the river. Right now we have 5 that he found.

I find Lady is pretty good at finding them except if the get buried in long wet grass where I think the scent must get completely obscured by the wet grass. We've lost a few that way. I always hope they'll show up after the hay has been cut but I think they must get chomped up by the cutters.
