Re: I can't stand it It never rains but it pours. : Once you've sorted them all out take your pup for a walk in the sunshine that should help.
Re: I can't stand it Oh gosh, I do hope he's ok. But to add to the tales of dogs who've done similar and survived, I have a tale of our late Irish Setter: It was 13 years ago - the event was my son's first birthday, which was being combined with his baptism. Lots of relatives were coming down and we spent the morning preparing a buffet. The crowning glory was a chocolate birthday cake the doting parents had made (!) - chocolate sponge with chocolate filling and frosting in the shape of a (large) teddy bear, with grated chocolate all over making the 'fur'. Now, it was a warm summer day, and we'd filled the fridge with buffet bits, so I decided to put the cake in the garage. Busy in the kitchen, I forget I'd left the door open.....you guessed it, when the cake was called for, all we found were some chocolatey crumbs and a rather rotund Setter! She lived to get in many more scrapes after that though thank goodness.
Re: I can't stand it What a day! Great you can look on the bright side. Hoping tomorrow is better (and involves more sleep for you).
Re: I can't stand it Hi Lisa, there must be something in the air as we had trauma today too. Not chocolate though. I am sure you had a worrying time and pleased it all seems ok now.
Re: I can't stand it So glad Simba seems to be ok They do say things happen in three's, so hopefully you have your fill for the year
Re: I can't stand it Hope all is well now. Your saga puts into perspective the fact that I was worried a couple of days ago when my grandson left some cocopops in a bowl on the worktop and I only discovered it when they had been 'got at' and spattered everywhere by my two labs!
Re: I can't stand it Thanks, all. It's really amazing how long the hyperactivity lasts after the cocoa ingestion. He ate it somewhere between 6-9 PM, he didn't really settle down until late afternoon, although the worst was certainly the hours right after, of course. And even now (9:30) he's still unsettled more than he usually is at this time of night. Poor pup, I'm sure it's not that fun for him to be that wired, although he certainly looked like he was having fun at times. : Anyhow, hoping for good sleep for all tonight. Remaining packages of unsweetened chocolate now in the freezer.....
Re: I can't stand it Poor you! But glad Simba seems to have come through the chocolate binge OK healthwise.
Re: I can't stand it I've had similar chocolate events with both a Springer Spaniel (ate 2 bags of Hershey Kisses) and a Lab (1 pound bar of dark chocolate). The Springer was fine the first time, after lots of sparkly poops, but had a severe reaction after a second illegal encounter with chocolate. The emergency vet told me to give her about 40 cc of hydrogen peroxide to make her vomit, if it ever happened again AND I caught it within a half hour or so. When my Lab did her thing a few years later, I remembered the advice. I hauled her out into the barn, squirted 60 cc of H2O2 down her throat, and about 3 minutes later, up came off the chocolate, wrapper and all. She was fine, though she looked at me with reproach... Seemed a bit harsh, but the alternative seemed much worse! We keep a big bottle of H2O2 and a dose syringe around at all times :-\
Re: I can't stand it Yes, I'm thinking I need some of that! In this case it wouldn't have helped, mind you. We had no idea when he had ingested it, it could have been anytime in the three hours we were gone....
Re: I can't stand it Still just dipping in but always try to check in on the health issues....Simba!youve been so quiet on the mischief front recently and then there you go.....Glad he's ok Lisa....and your poor Son,ankle injuries are still so fresh in my mind he has my very sympathies and hope he managed to get throughout the day on his feet x
Re: I can't stand it Thanks, Angela. Boy is feeling better, although still a little sore, thanks for asking
