Hi All, Finally back to the forum after a few mad weeks of holidays and kids birthdays! Thought I would post a new photo of Nellie and an update of how she's getting on. We have been away for a week on the sunny island of Rhodes so Nellie was back with the breeder while we were away. One of her siblings was there at the same time so she had a ball. Our holiday delayed her 1st walk by 5 days but we took her out yesterday on our return and let her off lead. She stuck close by for most of the time but seemed brave enough to venture quite far away from us - should I be worried by this? She did come when called and even managed to resist the temptation to run after a Golden Retriever. I was also worried that a week away might undo a lot of our previous training but she seemed to slip back into the routine quite easily so that's all good - phew! Now to catch up with everyone's posts from the last 2-3 weeks! 13 weeks by nicolamorris0208, on Flickr
Re: Nellie now 13 weeks and 3/4! That's a lovely pic. Bet you had a fabulous welcome. Good luck on the catching up!
Re: Nellie now 13 weeks and 3/4! Welcome back, hope you had a good time away! Nellie's looking lovely ;D
Re: Nellie now 13 weeks and 3/4! Lovely photo. There's always something lovely about black and white photos. We have quite a brave pup too and she was happy to go quite far for a little thing. We were in a restricted area but still think it was a big mistake on our part to allow it. We thought, stupidly in retrospect, our recall was coming along great but one day she bolted from the field home. About 30 meters or so but around corners and out of sight. Huge fright and got straight back into the book to check out advice on fearless pups. Went back to basics with high value rewars on recall and kept her range to about 5 meters, worked up to 10 ish. Now, at 17 weeks, she'll stop and wait for us after 20 meters and we do lots of recall practice at different lengths up to that limit. It's a hard balance but I'd definitely do it differently if we were back at the start.

I have the total recall book just haven't had much of a chance to read it! I will have a look tomorrow at how to reel in a brave pup!!

[/quote] Totally agree with that statement..I've learnt so much...and some of it the hard way : I'd love to be able to start again with a few things ... Nellie looks gorgeous, hope you had a great holiday,it must have been lovely to go and stay with her breeder and a litter mate....
Re: Nellie now 13 weeks and 3/4! I let Penny off from her first walk but when we were at the park I kept a long line on her for a month or so just to be on the safe side. I didn't hold it, just left it drag around but it was about 10m long so plenty to grab if she looked like she would make a run for it.
