I would prefer the site to be advert-free, so I'll try to get to grips with uploading photos!

On the subject of advertisements, I think sites with ads look and feel a bit down market and only existing as a commercial tool.

One of the other forums I used to be on got taken over and had adverts all over it. Then there was a thing where the company said that because we had posted pictures to the forum that meant that the company could take them and use them as their own in whatever way they wanted. So no one uploaded pictures anymore :(

Do you mean this post, or how to get photos uploaded? Getting clear instructions up can be difficult, especially when the hosting companies keep changing their interfaces, but we can probably improve on the stuff in the technical help section

That sounds good Kate, if it isn't copyright protected please put it up :)

I voted for 'direct upload' before reading the bit about the implications (adverts). No, we don't want adverts. I eventually figured out how to sign up for dropbox, although I'm using the basic version of it so I can only post links. It means I don't post as many pictures as I'd like to (because it is a hassle), but better than having adverts.

Same as Rosie, didn't see the bit about adverts. I use photobucket, but can't work out how to use flickr! ::)

Well this is all very positive. I was concerned that the lack of direct upload might be putting people off, but it would seem not. :)

We could probably do with regularly checking/updating the photo posting instructions and making sure that there is one for each of the main photo hosting sites.

These are the sites I am aware of can we add any others that you like to this thread?

    Flickr
    Photobucket
    Dropbox
    Imgr

Then I'll work through and make sure the instructions for each are good to go.

    My photobucket instruction guide..

I use both photobucket and flikr, but find photobucket a bit simpler.

    1. Open a photobucket account by visiting www.photobucket.com. It is a free photo hosting site.

    2. From your photobucket account chose the photo you wish to upload to the forum.

3. On ciicking on your photo you will see sharing options to the right depending on where to send your photo.

    4. Left click on the bottom option (IMG), this then turns yellow and you can "paste" this link into the reply box on the forum to embed the photo into your comments.

I would like to add my voice to the "no adverts" lobby. Though, to be fair, I have trained myself not to see them when they appear on my computer screen.

I record the commercial tv stations and then fast forward through the adverts thinking "te he, you've paid millions to advertise at me and I'm ignoring it"

Oops, me too. I clicked on "direct from computer" before I read the first post. It's a bit of a pain in the butt to use a third party (I use Imgur) but it's definitely preferable to adverts.

I would prefer no adverts, although I keep promising myself that I will try to photos ... tomorrow, perhaps?!
