We're all here because we love labs - but why? What is it about yours that makes you so pleased you chose a lab?
I'm going to make this tough - name just ONE!

For me it's because they always look pleased to see ANYbody - especially as I have a lot of people come to the house.

Asking for only one is just plain mean! ;D

If I have to chose one then it probably has to be the way the end of their tail thumps gently on the floor when we talk about them. Even when they appear to be fast asleep!

I know it was mean Pippa  I was hoping that this would be a topic anyone would feel they could post on! Come on you lot - if you're reading this don't be shy tell us why you love labs - why else are you on a lab site?

    Hi Carole

I think this is a really nice idea for a thread. I think my answer has to be, the way my lab is fairly quiet at home when my husband is in - but becomes 100% committed to Sounding The Alert if anyone steps with 100 yards of the house, when he's out.

We are in a rural location so this is very reassuring when I'm Home Alone - but is also really rather clever!

Cone on all you silent readers - we'd love to hear yours!

    Sam.

I know what you mean Pippa, when that tail just starts to go it brings a smile to my face. And the endless enthusiastic welcomes are definitely endearing.

I may be imagining it but I think my favourite thing is just how well they read us though. I had a sad time recently and my pup just seemed to know, he was different with me than others and a great, quiet comfort even at his tender age.

Hard to pin down just one.

    - Ears up and forward; front legs splayed and ready for a game!
    - Soft muzzle on the back of the hand
    - Unexpected present of a log out of the BOTTOM of the previously neat wood pile!
    - Complete innocence and lack of any agenda
    - And of course her people management skills.

    ;D

I like David's list!. Though I have to disagree about the agenda.

My labs' agenda goes something like this

    • [li]Think about food[/li]
      [li]Look for food[/li]
      [li]Eat some food[/li]
      [li]Think about some more food[/li]
[li]Plan next appointment for looking for food[/li]

    ;D

    My lab's goes more like:

    • [li]think about cuddles[/li]
[li]get distracted by thinking about food[/li]
      [li]steal the cat's food[/li]
      [li]think about cuddles again[/li]

    :)

:D barney's list would be something like this:

    chase potential food
come back on promise of food
    eat food
have a little rest dreaming about food
    think about food some more
    repeat...

I think Rocket's most endearing trait for me is how whenever I sit down she sidles over and rests her chin on my leg. Most of the time she gives me a little nudge with her nose to make sure I know she's there and needs her ears scratching.
