How many people clean their dog's teeth? My vet said it is only any good if you do it literally every day. Do people actually do that?
Vespa eats raw bones regularly and the outside of her teeth and back teeth are pretty clean but the insides of her front teeth are a different story. She's only 2 1/2. Should I be worrying about this? Is there a particular kind of bone that is especially good for teeth cleaning?
    Thanks. :)

Dogs don't use their front teeth to chew bones so if you want those covered then teeth cleaning is the best option. Raw bones covered in meat will do a fairly good job with back teeth - you want soft, thick meaty bones that the dog has to slice through - think chicken thigh + leg on the bone, half a rabbit, turkey or chicken wings, lamb ribs, turkey necks, lamb necks...

I clean my dog's teeth but I am not diligent enough to do it every day. I do it a few times a week and it definitely makes a difference :) His teeth look noticeably cleaner after brushing.

I'm the same, brush them every 2days (or more often if she's eaten something gross) and have done since she arrived at 8 weeks. I also use plaque off added to her food which does seem to be helping but as she's only 7months it might be too soon to tell.

Hi Rosamund....we did a thread on this earlier in the Summer,I'll look it up for you.
I do clean Dexters teeth everyday,I had to take him to the vet this week because he was vomiting...I'm sure he doesn't remember I'm the 'teeth cleaning woman' but he looked in his mouth and said his teeth are in excellent condition ;D that said I do feel that there are little tinges of brown in the ridges which I really have a scratch at with my teeth cleaning finger sock,so just shows it's a mission to keep on top of it.
I'm too scared to feed the bones that Rachael suggests.....although that is absolutely excellent advice ,I'm just a scaredy cat about him choking ::)

    Re: Teeth

I try to clean my dog's teeth - I say try as I'm a bit of a teeth cleaning amateur and don't feel I do it very well. But I try, and I think it does make a difference. I can't get to the inside or upper surfaces of the back teeth - I use a finger sock and don't stick my finger between my dog's back teeth! The finger sock is fine and fab for the front ones though.

I sometimes miss days if I'm busy, but do what I can. I think it's well worth doing.

Oh-thanks for that. Should've done a search of the forum before posting. Sorry. I'll have a good read. Thanks for all the advice. :)

We clean Harley's teeth, but not every day. We do give her some raw bones. Our vet always says about how good her teeth look :)
