I am shielding Riley from that naughty advice Lochan!

the other advice was that a second dog would be good for him too as he would have to watch me playing with someone else.....mmmm now about those spaniels ;D

fingers crossed he'll catch on quick ::)

My two get about 1.30 to 1.45 in the morning, which is mostly off lead. This is pretty full on, starts with ball retrieving which is a mix of structured ball retrieving and mad free for all chasing and racing, mayhem hoolying. Then off into hills with scrambling and a bit of free running and some 'proper' dummy stuff ( otherwise Brodick would free hunt but they both like anyway). Later on another 45 mins to an hour, swimming at beach if tide out, running with me a couple of times a week, playing in park, or just a scamper off lead and game with any dog pals. Bed time sniffy lead walk. I dont have a garden so we have to go out for exercise. same as Lochan a couple of thinky training sessions during day, we are working through the gundog trust books which are fab. Cuillin thinks this is way too little stuff of a day and would like to interact/run all day. Brodick lives his life in a slightly calmer lane ( unless there is a pheasant or rabbit around)

    For sake of sounding lazy.......
a 30-35 on lead and a 45-50 off lead on average most days.
Or if we do a long walk/beach trip, just the one and around 90 mins average I guess.
    Deprived girl.
And a swim for 20 mins roughly every 2 weeks.

I'm brave enough to post now I've seen this one! Pongo gets about 45 mins a day off lead walkies; plus as much running around the garden as he wants (in this weather the door is always open). But he normally chooses to just go for a little wander then come back and sleep. But I don't think he is overweight, and certainly not over-excitable, so I'm thinking that this is probably OK for him....?

Harley who is very nearly 1, gets at least one hour a day (probably 1.5hrs including a bit on lead). Our doors are always open to the garden so she can come and go as she pleases. I also do at least 2 training sessions per day for about 10-15 mins each :)

Safe for me to post now too!!!

Obi gets 30-40 mins on weekday mornings with us, mostly on lead. Two days a week he gets an extra hour with the dog walker (on lead) and one day a week an extra three hours with the dog walker (on and off lead). Every second Friday (my day off) about three hours with me, mostly off lead. Saturdays about an hour off lead. Sundays two hours at the dog club in the morning (obedience and running about) and one hour at the dog club in the afternoon (Flyball training). Most days a 10-15 min obedience training session at some point.

Simba is a bit deprived, too, but here goes.

AM - 15-20 minute on lead

Two other walks during the day - one around 30 mins on-lead and the other around 45 mins to an hour or longer, depending on where we go. Try to do this one either at the dog park or off-lead three or four days of the week, other than that it's a longer on-lead walk.

Lucky dogs that get 4 hour walks!! Yeesh.... :)

Otis gets a run around in the park sometimes with other dogs, for about 45 to 60 mins a day, sometimes a bit more, on saturdays he usualy goes to the borrow my doggy people and they are out for about two and a half hours with him. Im at my parents for three days a week now looking after mum, they have a huge garden and the back doors always open, and also he gets more walks there, as there are nicer places to walk, he paddles in the sea and drainge canal, still not swimming yet. Do you think it matters that it varies so much? one day it might be 45 mins, another three hours ?

I don't think it needs to be the same each day, no. I'd say it's fine to normally do 45mins and say 3 times a week do longer/more energetic.

It's also going to depend on what's ok for your dog. I try to keep Charlie's exercise pretty regular but that doesn't mean exactly the same each day. I try to avoid him being "a weekend cowboy" though. By that I mean very little during the week and stacks at weekends.

1 -1.5 hrs once a day and 90% off lead. Sometimes they get extra on-lead walks for school run trips.
We are lucky enough to have large garden and a field so also do free running around these daily.

In the morning Penny gets either half a mile off lead or a mile on lead. It's usually off lead though and that seems to tire her enough that she will settle while I'm out at work.

In the evening she will get anywhere from 1.5 to 3 miles depending on weather but it's always about 70% off lead.

In the winter she still gets the same in the morning but the evening walk will be less as the big park we walk in isn't lit at all and I don't feel safe there in the dark (OH doesn't usually come for walks unless I force him so he definitely doesn't come in the dark or rain!)

At the weekends she could get anything from 3 to 10 miles depending on what we are up to. I've come to realise we are a bit of a weekend warrior type but it's not every weekend we do this, maybe once or twice a month.

Lady gets about 3 miles in the morning depending on the weather. If it's hot then a bit less. If it's tipping down with rain a bit less too. In the evening we don't go far, but I generally do a bit of ad hoc training with her and she gets some aerobics as well. All the walking is off lead unless we have to negotiate sheep or I walk her back along the road rather then over the fields.

We do other walks too about once or twice a month where we drive somewhere. For example we are doing a much longer walk this week on the South Downs if it's not too hot then picnicking on Climping beach where there is a dog friendly part and she can swim in the sea.
