Re: Walking loosely on the lead With Tatze I used a harness until she was always walking on a loose lead. It worked well because she was an occasional lunger and I didn't want her neck to get hurt. Now she is in a flay collar all the time. Gypsy has a flat leather collar, no harness allowed. Guide dogs can't ever pull or lunge in a harness. So it's going to be quite a job to get her lead trained safely!

I've been walking Molly all over the place, giving her lots of new experiences, whereas I'd be better off doing the same old route. Makes perfect sense, there will always be new distractions wherever you go, new dogs, new discarded food wrappers, but much of it will be familiar and boring to the dog and she will just amble along. Well, that's the plan

[/quote] Well, it was a bit extreme with Charlie when I was doing this - I'm not sure it needs to be so for everyone. But yes, I didn't try to walk across an exciting park until I could walk down a boring street, I didn't try to do a mile across the common until I could do the same circuit on the common - round and round adding up to mile - and so on...
