We brought Scout home last Tuesday at exactly 8 weeks. From the very start I had her outside without a lead. She does great, stays right with me. I've been taking her for walks early in the morning (5:30am) and late at night (11:00pm) without the lead and I have no problems. Every once in a while she'll wander away from me but always comes running if I start to walk away from her.

Here's my problem. My office is about 75 yards down the street from my house. There is currently construction going on across the street. I take her to the office with me for a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon if my wife and daughters leave the house to run errands. I get worried with all the construction traffic so I try putting her on the lead to take her down to my office. Every time I put her on the lead she just sits down in the driveway and won't budge. If I do get her started it's only a few feet and she sits right back down again. If I take her off the lead she heads right down with me but I'm afraid she'll wander into the street. Any suggestions? I've even tried luring her with treats and that doesn't work either.

I'm elated with the fact that she stays with me off the lead but I don't want to take any chances with traffic.

Tatze was just the same. It won't last long, she will soon be trotting along by your side.

Is she too big to pick up and carry? I found if I carried Tatze away from the house she would walk back - it was walking from the house which daunted her.

    :)

Try luring her along with some treats. Give her a treat for moving any distance at all in a forwards direction :)

Nice work on getting such good off-lead behaviour! You must be so happy with that :)

You could try just putting it on her for short periods of time at home and just letting her run around the house with it on. Obviously be careful that she doesn't get caught on anything but it will get her used to the feel of having it attached to her collar. You could also try using a harness - in my experience with puppies that won't walk on a lead if you put a harness on with the lead attached to that they seem to forget the lead is there at all.
