Ash has found a hidden section of our sofa seat cushions where the seat cover no longer covers the foam. He started ripping at the netting underneath to get to the foam so I went to the pet store and bought a product called Get Off. It's supposed to make fabrics such as shoes, etc taste bad. I sprayed it on my shoe laces which he is obsessed with and the broken bit of the sofa but he's weirdly not bothered by the stuff. I super soaked my laces but in less than ten minutes he was chewing them again. Does anyone know of any anti chew sprays that really work? Or any home-made remedies?

I can't help you with a recommendation, but I can sympathise. My last dog adored the stuff.

I gather there are several different "flavours" to try to find the one your dog truly hates

Dexter was / is a really determined chewer ,thankfully it was never directed at anything 'illegal' ...except,he had a couple of goes on the skirting board in his room...I used apple bitter spray.....I guess it worked because he never chewed again but he was quite heavily policed and distracted ???...it's worth a try? A lot dogs actually like the taste of products designed to stop them chewing things, so it's just a case of finding something that your pup really detests the taste or smell of!

Commonly sold sprays like bitter apple do work, but again a lot of dogs actually enjoy the taste of these so they are sometimes pointless!! A lot of people on this forum have had this problem so I'm sure they have some very inventive solutions! I've heard people mention Tabasco sauce as one alternative, and read somewhere about someone who bought a really cheap perfume and sprayed it on.

My dog hates A1 steak sauce. Thats probably not an option to spray on your shoes or couch, but I think its pretty funny that he hates it so much. he will lick a plate clean but avoid any area where there was A1 sauce.

    Tabasco sauce!
Worked on hard furnishings like kitchen table and chair legs, but you might not want to put it on your sofa ;) Did work on laces too though ;D

I used Bitter Apple on my sofa but you have to keep spraying it on.... hate to show you the sofa!! it has been chewed to bits.....there are just so many hundred of times you can get up off your easy chair to say NO and pull your pup off what he is doing when, for him, it is sooooo much fun! Not only has he chewed the fabric off the sofa but also all the stuffing!! Sorry!! Good luck!

Thanks everyone. There are five us of (me, hubby and three kids - 15, 12, 11) and it's still not enough eyes on him sometimes lol. I can't wait till he's old enough for proper long walks that will tire him out as he's been out for tonight's walk, did his training & puzzle toy and still ran round like a mad thing for an hour.

I will try bitter apple and if that fails the Tabasco. Our sofa has had worse with the kids lol.

Ours like the chew spray too, chewed the corner of a wicker chest so i soaked it in it, two minutes later they were back chewing it. It's been moved to a lab free room now.

We have a quite expensive leather sofa in the room the dogs live (was dining room now a second sitting room) it's only a year old (bought before we realised we would lose our other two so soon) and inwas really worried before we git the pups that they would ruin it. I got a black quilted soda cover from Amazon for £12 and it is brilliant. As it's shaped to cover the seat and back, with flaps over the arms it protects it really well, even when they jump up at the arms. It has little flaps to tuck down the back and sides so might make to difficult for him to get under.
