Nero is now 10 months old and a very large strong dog. When we are out on walks on his lead he has developed a stubborn little habit of laying down when he sees something/someone
For example if he sees something he likes and i am trying to pull him away he just lays down....then i am powerless to move him! Not even a treat will get him to move.

Anyone had this with thier dog?

can't help but i'd be interested in any suggestions from folks as Kenzi does the same, the only advantage I have is she's only 7months and I can still pick her half way up off the ground to suggest she starts moving. I've also tried treats, putting myself ahead of her to block the view etc but if picking her up doesn't work I simply have to wait until the person is out of sight :(

Dex lays down if it's another dog that's got his interest...I've stopped all the saying hello to dogs on leads now.....and if I can I really try to jolly him along before he gets to lie down as the end result is usually a lunge to get to the other dog and that has to stop!Ive trained a 'look at me ' to break his concentration and it works most times...if I've misjudged his behaviour cues though and I'm too late and he lies down....I have to bring in the big guns....roast chicken and now sardines.Ill throw a treat and say 'get it' once he's up we can get moving again with 'look at me' .I'm learning with my first dog,I know pulling Dexter wouldn't work,it would encourage him to pull against me ,also I worry if you are pulling them ,does it make them think it's ok to pull you?they are just meeting your resistance? If Nero isn't responding to a treat,my first thing would be to say upgrade your treat to something really fantastic....Sardines,warm roast chicken, roast beef...that might spark his interest?
When Dexter stops dead and stands still ,we wait it out ...as soon as he moves one step he gets loads of praise and a treat and we are usually off again with a 'let's go' or a ' walk'
Good luck,it's a nuisance when they do it as like you say they are so strong

Molly has a thing for grass and lays down on it and refuses to budge. I lob a piece of kibble a few feet in front of her that usually gets her bum off the deck.

Leaving aside the laying down on lead if a dog sees another dog, "concrete bum syndrome" (CBS) is not so unusual.

Simba is the master, and my own boy is his understudy...

The Lean?? Oh yes. Also The Lie Down Sniff, The Plant My Paws, and The Concrete Bum (name inspired by Choc Charlie)... ::)

He does it, I think, because he is fixated on a smell, or something like that. He also does it to express his opinion about which way he wants to go on his walk, and also to protest at turning for home.

I just wait him out, then he gets a treat once he is trotting along nicely again.
