    He is really sweet!
I too worried about my pup escaping on the way to the car. Needlessly!
It was a doddle - she just cuddled in. no worries at all.
    It will be fine.
    Good luck!!!

So today's the day and I'm super excited, still not sure so will put a collar on him in case.....that's if he takes it. If not I will just envelope him in my coat and hold him.

I can't wait to sniff him, I love the smell of pups.

Don't worry, you'll manage fine - everyone does, even though there seems to be so much to worry about.

    Happy day - enjoy!

Oh and forgot to ask, can't find anything in the book on collars. Is it a good idea to collar him as soon as he is home so he can get used to it. He's not going out for at least a month as he needs his second jabs and they are due on 29th Aug?

I personally don't like a collar in the house.
you will need to put it on to get him used to it but its safer not to leave it on all the time.
I think getting used to the lead attached is more a problem.

Ok thanks, will start getting him used to a collar nearer the time he is due to start going out.

Charlie hated his collar - he's not keen on it even now. ::).

So I got him used to it slowly, and ignored him when he fussed about it (he would moan, scratch at it and try to rub it off). I don't think this is normal though, as Jac says, we hear much more about the lead being problematic.

I don't leave collars on in the house.

You need to take your pup out - you need to carry him at first that's all - and see whether you can get to puppy parties and safe things like that. I did put a collar on Charlie when we were out and about (but he went to puppy school 3 days after we got him, so we did the lead right away too)

I'm still concerned about him weeing if we take him out as my vet won't let me even put him in the garden because of the foxes. I don't want to risk putting him on the floor. The foxes are all over the roads round here.
I will ring the puppy Playgroup and see if he can go without his second jab otherwise he'll have to wait. I will take him into the neighbours as soon as he has peed so he can start a bit of socialising.
I'm waiting to get a second opinion on the garden from another vet as we trust him so we'll see what he says.

Roll on 10:30 when my life will be thrown into chaos for the next 12 months lol.

In no time he'll be able to last 30 minutes or so, then an hour (he won't pee when you are carrying him if that's what you are worried about).

Wait until puppy is "empty" and he has had a pee, then pick him up and take him out - go to the bus stop, stand outside shops, go to the pub, have a coffee in a cafe with outside tables, stand by a road, the railway station, and so on. Pets at home is a great place to meet kids. Some people use a baby sling to make the carrying easier.
