I've posted before about Lady being frightened of cows, but here's an update. It's black and white cows rather than the brown variety. One farm we walk across has Sussex cows and she doesn't bat an eyelid. The other farm has belted Galloways and she won't go within a mile of them. Very strange, or is black and white somehow more threatening? It's just possible of course that she associates black and white markings with danger since I got stomped on by a piebald stallion a while ago when she was a puppy (the dog not the horse ;D)
Re: Cows - again ... Poor Lady.....could be nasty black and white beasties are all the same to her. You'll have to hang out with pretty Jersey cows
Re: Cows - again ... It is quite possible that Lady remembers the stallion incident and associates a large black and white animal with danger. I walk my dogs through my field with my horses grazing near by on a daily basis and neither the dogs nor the horses will bat an eyelid but otherwise I try to avoid fields with livestock because of the potential pitfalls. Got caught out the other day though during a little bit of hunting training through some cover crop on my friends' shoot. The cover is still very high and thick and unbeknown to me a herd of Mangalitsa pigs had been put in the plot to graze off the vegetation. It was a bit of a shock to come face to face with a huge curly coated boar and his harem. You have never seen a woman and her cocker run so fast through a field. Murffi found another gear and so did I. ;D
Re: Cows - again ... Can just imagine that Heidrun I`m sure it the association with the horse David , these deep rooted fears stay with them for a long time, especially if they are sensitive dogs , stay away from the Panda cows ( thats what I call the Galloways, lots on Bodmin Moor )
Re: Cows - again ... Heidrun, that must have been a sight to behold, bet the pigs got a shock too - very funny ;D ;D Helen
Re: Cows - again ... Haha Heidrun, I can just imagine! I've been faced with wild boar, so know how you feel!!! My old dog Bones, not the brightest spark bless him, used to bark at wild boar and then when they charged him would come running and hide behind my legs... : - leaving me shouting 'Go home, Piggy!!! and waving the lead wildly!!! Kate, I thought you just said David should keep Lady away from panda cars...
Re: Cows - again ... poor Lady...I wonder if she remembers and associates the colour....Cuilli was chased by Lurchers when she was wee and now any dog that vaguely resembles one sets off a panic, a bark, and hasty departure....greyhounds, whippets, and lurchers mean Danger...I'm giggling at the wild boar and Mangalitsa pigs scenes tho!
