We decided to have a go at off lead on the common, first time Elsie has been off, no one around and pouring with rain so no one likely to turn up (strangely we seem only ones who march out come rain or shine here ;D Anyway unclip the lead and and and ....... not a lot she stuck firmly to my husbands left leg LOL Lovely walk but she wouldn't leave his side she moves further away on her long lunge line than she would off lead. Went round the field then I walked across the field and called her to try and give her a run, well run she did only trouble was as I was slightly horrified to realise (think look on my face must have been a classic) she didn't put her breaks on and completely side slid into my legs knocking me clean over ! My husband called her back and if he hadn't hopped quickly sideways he too would have been on the ground. Driving back all muddy right through to my knickers I kept reminding myself I love her, I do love her really I do ;D
Re: Odd dog ? Lmao ;D ;D. Sorry, couldn't help but laugh Harley never left my side for the first few weeks.....I think it's a bit scary for them at first.
Re: Odd dog ? Julie I'm so sorry,I've laughed my head off too,oh if only you'd filmed ' the first time we let Elsie off'.....YouTube viral!hope you didn't take too hard a bump and she sounds like she had a great time running between you ,capitalize on that sticking to your hubby's left leg
Re: Odd dog ? Elise is 6 months, isn't she - sorry if I've got that wrong. Well, that's a great result for a 6 month old dog that hasn't been off lead before. Brill. Get your recall training in quick and you'll be sorted! There is a helpful article on "labradors arriving nicely" here: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labradors-arriving-nicely/
Re: Odd dog ? I'm imagining the sight... mud to your knickers! What a hoot! ;D ;D ;D Glad you weren't injured, though. My problem is staying out of the way of three dogs careening around, all chasing the speediest one with the frisbee! I realized today that another reason I love Labs is they clean up so easily! My Golden mix, Henry, came back from a chase through the weeds this morning with tiny burrs and stickers all over his feathering. Took a good 20 minutes with a comb to get them all out! He was a trooper though - just lay in the grass and let me work. Daisy thought she really ought to eat them, just to be sure they wouldn't get stuck on him again... Slimy wad of hair and stickers pulled out of her mouth - what could possibly be appealing about stickers and burrs?? ???
Re: Odd dog ? yes they do come clean easily milly yellow finds the muddiest puddles and paddles in them comes out looking like a black lab up to her belly other dogwalkers find it very funny they ask if she is bathed but she is dry almost by the time we drive home
