I will soon be picking up my new pup. He will have to live in our house with an 11 year old cat. The cat was fine with my last (late) dog but I am a bit concerned she may take a dislike to the lil fella. The cat used to wash the last dog & share his basket, so I think it may be ok. Cant help being frettful though.
Re: Cat in new Puppy home. They may not have the close bond that your cat had with your old dog, but I would think she will at least tolerate the puppy. Don't be surprised if she has a good old hiss and swipe at the pup to begin with - she's just teaching the pup some boundaries, especially as an older cat she might not appreciate a rambunctious pup jumping all over her! We brought my cat home when our pup was six months old. For about a week the kitten was terrified of the puppy but now they are best of friends and play and wrestle together. On the other hand my mums cat used to be rather aloof with my dog and my dog has always been wary of her - she was never averse to giving Penny a good swipe on the nose.

[/quote] Thanks, im just a bit worried about the puppy, I know he is gona be a tough guy but "Daisey" can be a menace.
Re: Cat in new Puppy home. I think one of the main things is give each pet an opportunity to get away from the other. The cat may be less likely to take umbrage if she has a puppy free place she can get too and likewise the pup may want a safe haven from the big new world with a grumpy cat in it. Baby gates and crates are good options to help with this I think
