This week Tuppence found something really tasty in the garden, resulting in copious drooling and looking a bit sad. Fortunately after a night at the vet's she's back to her normal, bouncy self. I was given a syringe of probiotic paste to squirt in her mouth and decided to give it to her after her supper when she would be calmer, in theory. Well, I'm not sure how the nurse did it, but I managed to squirt a bit by her eye, then her ear ... So in desperation I squirted it onto her now-empty, slow-eater plate and she licked it up in seconds. Suppose I should have realised that it was her scavenging that got her into trouble in the first place!
Re: Giving medicine ... Oh Gosh, did you establish what she ate? Dexter is so greedy for his food he will even crunch up a pill without any enticement
Re: Giving medicine ... Yep, Penny doesn't care what she has in her bowl - she'll eat it! Funny though - she won't touch the flavoured drontal wormer but will happily gulp down the non flavoured twice as big milbemax...
Re: Giving medicine ... Tatze will also eat whatever you give her, so medicine is no problem. But eye drops? You'd think we were killing her! I resorted to putting them on cotton wool and wiping them over her eye. Not ideal, but we simply couldn't hold her
Re: Giving medicine ... Typical Lab , Sam has had to have the probiotic paste a time or two due to his scavenging habits , he will go to pieces if I try to squirt it into his mouth, but will happily lick it from my hand :
Re: Giving medicine ... Charlie sits opened mouth like a baby bird having the paste squirted in and laps it up, no problem with wormers either Hattie has never had to have the paste and as for wormers I'm afraid it's down the hatch : x

Re: Giving medicine ... Oh Gosh, did you establish what she ate? No, unfortunately, even though I was in the garden too. It could have been nasty mushrooms (had removed the obvious white ones but not seen the tiny brown ones in the moss), slugs, apples, plums, something that the foxes had left - or even a rotten apple she'd tried to snatch from the side of the path while out on a walk. I'm not sure how long before the effects become apparent. I can try to keep her out of that part of the garden unless she's having supervised playing, but then a while ago she somehow cut her leg badly rushing round the more confined area with Wispa ... Can't win! :-\
Re: Giving medicine ... I hope she's better today I squirt the paste into the side of Harley's mouth and she takes it no problem, even comes over to lick the tube to make sure there's no more! Wormers - will eat whole. Antibiotics I have to put in food - ham, cheese, peanut butter etc.
Re: Giving medicine ... Meg was on propalin for urinary incontinence and she hated me squirting the liquid into her mouth. Luckily she now has incurin tablets now cos propalin didn't work and I just put all her medication into pate and she scoffs them. She thinks it's a treat.
