Hi all Should we cut hollies nails? they are really sharp and have 2weeks before we can start taking her out Thanks

Re: Nail clipping I cut Penny's a couple days after we got her home - they were like little needles!! Even if you don't intend to do them very often in the future it's a good idea to get her used to having it done.
Re: Nail clipping The breeder cut Charlie's the day we picked him up - they were very sharp again about 3 weeks later but we were heading out by then, so didn't bother. You need to know what you are doing though, I got the vet to do it first time. After that, they never needed doing again once he was walking outside.

Re: Nail clipping Personally I'd be getting her used to nail clippers, even if you're not actually going to do any clipping. That will mean it's ho-hum when you do eventually clip Get your clippers and let her sniff them, then give a treat. Move the clippers towards her foot. Treat. Touch clippers to foot. Treat. Softly tap clippers on foot. Treat. Gently hold foot. Treat. Hold foot and touch clippers to foot. Treat. Continue in that manner till you can have the clippers ready to clip a nail, but don't bother clipping if you're not ready. When you are eventually ready to do it she'll be pretty relaxed about seeing those clippers If you're going to get the vet to do it take your own clippers and ask her/him to use those, so she knows everything is fine and she's going to get a treat. Best to plan ahead for these things and do what we can to take the novelty and potential fear out of situations
