Well Edsel is at it again. We've almost completed the 2 months of daily medication for the puppy mange, which seems to have resolved. Will be taking him to vet this week for follow up scrapings to confirm. But now he seems to have developed areas on his back, between shoulders, near tail that have a thick almost greasy, cradle cap type appearance. Anyone have experience with the same out there? These don't seem to bother him in any way but are pretty yucky to feel, remove or brush off.

    hi lori -

i've no experience with this, but my first reaction is to ask if it's possible he's allergic to his food... almost sounds like a reaction to something - not an unpleasant nor threatening reaction, obviously, but more like if i used a skin cream that made me break out in acne.

    something to consider?

Sounds like excema, or ay least that's what I would say if he were human ::) Which would lead me to suspect allergies. I would he taking him to the vet for an opinion, just to make sure.

Yes it doesn't sound like it's related to the mange as that tends to be dry and flaky rather than greasy - could well be an allergy of some sort. Possibly food related maybe, the best thing would be to speak to your vet as skin conditions can be tricky.

    Poor you and Edsel...
I'd be trying to get a referral to a veterinary dermatologist. They see these things every day whereas a 'general practice' vet will have seen it much less frequently. You can spend ages trying to resolve skin issues...sometimes a specialist is money well spent. :)
