In recent weeks we've been sharing the early blackberries during our walks. At some point during a walk I'd pick a handful, and we'd sit down and share them.

This morning I noticed that Holly has started grazing the low-hanging blackberries. She'll sniff out a rip one, then very delicately reach in and pick it. I didn't teach her, she just worked it out for herself.

Does anyone else's dog do this?

Charlie is a pro at snaffling all types of soft fruit but has a definite preference - strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and then blueberries only if nothing else is ready. His definition of ripe is exactly one day before mine though. ::)

Soft fruit snafflers here too. Lochan has learned to balance on her hind legs to swipe the plums from the tree this week. I've stopped growing raspberries and strawberries in the garden as there is really little point with two of them helping with the harvest.

Pongo will very happily take one delicately off the bush but only if I've pointed it out to him first. I think he's just being polite to me, he sometimes eats it but more often will quietly spit it out when he thinks I'm not looking.

"Silly mum, these taste rubbish. Still, better play along and not upset her."

Maisie loves a bit of blackberry picking! Makes me laugh to see her choosing which ones to have! ;D

Penny will eat them if I give them to her but not pick them. It's funny you mention this as just yesterday one of my friends posted a video on Facebook of her GSP eating blackberries off the plant!

Another soft fruit snaffler here! She knows where all the good wild strawb, rasp and bramble patches are on our walks. When she has picked all she can reach she sits and waits to have them picked for her! The other day she was on her hind legs stealing plums off our tree and yesterday she was pulling apples off a wild tree on our walk ::)
We have some haws hanging low over our fence and I was surprised to see her jump up to pick some of them  They are really sour and I think she realised they don't taste as good as they obviously smell to her :D

Simba loves raspberries...we also have a strawberry patch in our yard and I was sure he would destroy it this year, but for some reason he left it alone.

Now, grapes, on the other hand...we have a vine in the back yard, and before I learned that grapes were potentially poisonous to dogs he had eaten a whole lot. As many as he could reach. Lots and lots and lots....you get the picture.

No ill effects, thankfully. This year we put chicken wire up against the grape vine (which is against our garage wall) to stop him, I don't think they will harm him as they didn't last year but I didn't want to take the chance. And I wanted some grapes for ourselves.

The grapes are pretty much ripe now, and the other day I caught him wistfully sniffing through the chicken wire, eyeing it up and obviously wondering how he was going to harvest this year...

Holly has also discovered windfall apples from next door's tree. She plays with them for a while, tossing them in the air and chasing them, then two bites and they're gone.

I think we have a Labrador X Fruit Bat :)
