Re: Dogs prefer touch over sound as praise? I am not sure I agree perhaps it depends on the dog or the size of the dog ? Betty (Chihuahua) much prefers good girl and verbal strokes when we are walking if I bend down to her she assumes I am going to pick her up and carry her which she avoids like the plague, Elsie loses concentration and leaps around if I touch her, good girl or clever girl she grins like mad.
