    Hello All,
I have a 6 month old yellow lab called Cooper. First wee/poo in the morning and last one at night he goes out and sits and "meditates", sniffs the air, listens for noises, etc. and FINALLY does his business. But, he does his wee and forgets to poo or poo's and then have to send him out again to wee....specially first one in the morning when you truly expect he is bursting to go after nine hours!!! Is this usual? Do yours have somewhat the same situation??? Just wonder if he is playing me or really forgets to do one or the other! He DOES finally have a long wee or a large poo but takes his sweet time.....sorry to bring poo and wee up again.....interesting that we dog owners seem to be so fascinated by this whole thing! Thank you.

I know my Penny is reluctant to go for a wee or poo if the grass in the garden is too long!! I think it tickles her 'bits' and she doesn't like it hahaha!!

She will often not poo in the garden if I've been a bit lax about poo picking - she likes a nice tidy garden haha.

I would expect him to want to go for a wee immediately after being let out in the morning but not necessarily a poo - Penny goes a bit later than first thing. Perhaps he gets distracted by other things in the garden? Does he want to play when he goes out? With Penny we were always very clear that garden playtime comes after she has been to the toilet.

Dexter is 2 .....he has always weed 5 mins or so into his morning walk ( 8-9 hours after his last wee) and poos about 15-20 mins into his walk.......exactly the same at his tea time walk too.extra poos in the day are unusual and usually only when there has been an upset tum or I've been bit of the generous side with treats, kongs etc

Our Ruby is the same age and currently doing exactly the same thing. She used to be desperate in the morning and dashed out for a wee but lately is stretching, sitting and watching the nature, playing, etc. I'm less concerned about the poos - we've got her more or less trained to go at the far end of the garden and she goes when she needs to after whimpering at the door, but when she goes for a wee, it can be anywhere in the garden. I was running down to the end of the garden with her to get her to go there, but now she's not that desperate, she's not interested in following me, preferring to run around playing. Not great when I'm rushing to get sorted for work. Any solutions appreciated.

Elsie has a wee as soon as we get her lead on and down stairs 6am then at 8am she has her breakfast and then asks to go out again, so leads on down stairs and she has a wee and a poo. We had worked out when she needed to go and work around that. Betty has a different rota and likes to wait until 8am for her first wee and then has a poo about 10ish when we go for a walk. She rarely poos in the communal grounds.

Gypsy (16 weeks) only has a 6ft x 6ft area to use and poos/wees promptly and on command.

Tatze has the whole garden and sniffs every blade of grass before she decides where to poo/wee.

This extensive survey of two dogs leads me to the conclusion that more choice = much longer sniffs.

    :)

Gypsy isn't allowed out of her spending area into the garden 'till she's 'been' - so that's a huge incentive - here she is trying to fly out! ;)

Is Gypsy using her ears to take off! Bless her! :* :*

Benson is a bit of a dawdler, mornings a bit of sniff around then a long wee at about 6.30am, then a poo usually on our morning walk. In the evening he takes AGES to have a bedtime wee, to the extent we are thinking of C&T, really don't fancy those cold winter nights waiting for him to explore the driveway for 10mins beforehand... ??? :)

Albert 7 months exactly the same. Wakes up around 6.30 doesn't go anywhere near the back door till around 7.30 then mooches around beforehand.

At night it drives me insane. I boot him out for a last wee around 10.30-11.00 and he sits and sniffs, and looks at the slugs (never touches them thank goodness) then mooches around the flower beds, all the time I'm saying the cue "be quick" and there's absolutely nothing 'quick' about it. It used to work wonders but now he just does his own thing before having an enormous wee and most times a poo, so I've decided it's back to "be quick" and C&T, as I don't fancy standing around for 20 mins or so in the cold and wet!

orion is the same... i would think he'd be DYING to have a wee after not going for 8 or 9 hours, but he seems quite content to amble along a bit, THEN stop for a sniff, sniff, sniff, gallons-of-wee..... then 15 minutes or so later into the morning walk, a poo.

he is also big on the meditating and thinking about the world in general, usually when i'm in a huge hurry to get him back inside the house so i can leave for some appointment. ::)
