    Hi,all,
Latte my male choc.lab is now 7 months but still has flaky skin since very early days. It is like fine dandruff, and brushing doesn't help at all. He has not had a shampoo as yet and unsure if this is the right way to go. The last visit to the vet was about a month ago for a dodgy tummy, and I pointed out this skin issue but she did not seem at all concerned.
Latte"s food is Bob and Lush and he just loves meal times, his poo and wee are fine so I am thinking it may not be dietry. Does anyone have any suggestions to get this sorted?

Thanks Latte and his slave Ron!!

Tatze got the same at this age. I started putting a squidge of salmon oil on her meals and it soon went.

I still do and she's shiny and sleek now :)

I agree - fish oil is great, or the occasional can of sardines in oil...

You say that brushing does not help, how often are you brushing him? Sometimes brushing too often can cause dandruff or poor condition coat. Labs don't really need to be brushed except for on an odd occasion when they are moulting a lot.

It does seem unlikely to be dietary as it doesn't sound like there are any other indicators.

You could try adding some fish oil to his diet and see if this helps to improve the condition of his coat.

Albert now 7 months has had this too. Vet recommended Humilac spray by Virbac. You can get it on Amazon at a decent price. And also Johnsons skin calm shampoo. He thought Albert's might be due to too much swimming. He also told me to give him Piriton twice a day to help with the scratching. This was a month ago, and his skin is so much better. The piriton has really helped, and I don't need the spray now, and I rinse him off after every lake swim, and have stopped the sea swimming completely. Albert was already having Salmon oil, so that didn't really help him, and Salmon is the main protein in his grain free food! He still has a bit of dandruff, but now like grains of sand rather than big flakes.

    Good luck.
