When and how should one go from three meals a day to two? Mella is now a healthy 9 month old, full of energy but still on her three (smaller) meals a day. It will be easier to go down to two so does one just increase the morning one by 50% and then that's it?

Gypsy will go on to two meals at 6 months old. Tatze did too and she now has a bonio at lunch time. Yes, I just cut out the lunchtime meal and feed the same amount between 2 meals.

It's much easier when they go on to two meals.

    :)

We never go below 3 meals, they have their breakfast with me, lunch after mine and supper with my husband. Having a Chihuahua she needs tiny meals so it's easier to give Elsie 3 too.
Oh forgot the biscuit before bed they have too.

I know years ago we only fed one meal a day looking back on that time I wonder if they would all have been happier on 3 but life was different then.

We do a big meal in the morning and a small meal at night. Personally I'd just combine breakfast and lunch and leave dinner (evening) as it is :)

We do a third of the meal in the morning (don't want too much food in them as they will be running around) and two thirds in the evening when they can rest. I dropped the midday meal at 6 months as they didn't seem all that interested and it was easy to do so.

I remember Sam being heartbroken when I dropped off his lunch , he still has a very small handful of kibble . He has half his food in the morning and half for tea :)

I waited till about 8 months for Penny simply because she's always been so small. I just gradually cut down the lunchtime meal until she was only getting like a handful and then just stopped.

On the back of the Royal Canin bags it indicates...........

I am presuming that Mella will top out at around 25, max 30Kg so read this as "at 8 - 10 months 302g divided into 3 with 2/8 cup of water with each feed but would seem I am wrong? Underneath this it says up to 8 months 3 meals and 8....... 2 meals + water.

Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and cut out lunch!

I have to admit I watch mine to see how much they need rather than follow the guides on packs. Never had a fat dog yet only time one did put a little on was following a guide on a pack !

The diagram gives you the weight in g and also if you use a measuring cup - some people use scales, some people buy special measuring cups. It's not about water or how many meals. You decide on how many meals by how your pup is. Hope this helps.
