Any suggestions for interesting training treats? We took Ruby to her first training class last week and realised she's just not motivated enough by the packet ones. She had bits of hot dog sausages and bits of cheese which has seemed to work really well while we've been clicker training this week. I don't want her to get bored of them and lose interest so any other ideas for high - value treats would be appreciated.
Re: Treat Suggestions Sardines, Bouncer is mad for them. Although not a practical training treat. Dry cat food biccies. Bonio, yes somtimes the old faithful still work thinking about it, I could put anything in my pocket & Bouncer would see it as a treat, he will eat anything & I do mean anything. .
Re: Treat Suggestions Cheese. Toast. Cheese ON toast Smoked sausage. Warm cooked ham or roast chicken. Sardines. Top of the list is probably something that another person at puppy class has ;D I used to reserve these."premium" treats for training class or doggy swimming.
Re: Treat Suggestions When I took Penny to puppy class the trainer used her for a demonstration ONCE in the first class ONLY and used some chicken. Every single class after that she was obsessed with him!!! Dont underestimate the power of roast chicken
Re: Treat Suggestions It depends what kind of training for us. Clicker training something difficult, then pureed sardines in a baby food pouch is still top of the pile because a tiny amount can be given. But this only works if the treat delivery is with you. If I need to throw a treat to line up for the next repetition (training placeboards for example) then I need throwable treats - seabiscuits will often do in low distraction environment. Charlie's view of high value does shift - it's not always the case that the same thing is the most valuable. He seems to get used to amazing things. Currently, fresh king prawns are his top treat but he doesn't get them very often! It has to be a special thing I'm trying to do to feed those. Although he will often get a couple at the beginning of a class so he knows they might be in the game. Helps concentration. Routine recall or change direction throwable treats are chunks of roast chicken. Cheese balls or meatballs work fantastically well, but aren't always necessary - I do use them when the level of distractions goes up though.

Re: Treat Suggestions roast chicken, absolutely....!! orion goes simply mad for bits of it... whenever i cook it for the family for our dinner, he sits by the oven and simply drools - long quavery wet spittle strands just hanging from his jowls.... lol!
