I was in the garden & thought bouncer was unusualy quiet. I found him under my pear tree happily munching on a windfall. He saw me coming & wolfed it down before I could get it off him. Will it do him any harm? Also I cought him chewing on some ivy, I immediatly took that off him as it can be nasty. He seems fine, should I worry? My god, I havnt been this paranoid since my kids where babies.

Re: Pear's n Ivy Lilly loves the pears off our tree. She is welcome to them. There are usually about 4 or 6 every year and they are hard as bricks. Good roughage As Jan says, no worries about the pears, but beware explosive outcomes! The Dog's Trust list of harmful plants says..... Ivy (whole plant) - Harmful if eaten in quantity. But I would guess a few leaves are unlikely to be a problem

Re: Pear's n Ivy aha, mystery solved, I just saw him jump up to a low hanging fruit, grab it, let the branch bend back to earth then hang on until the pear came of in his mouth. I had the mission impossible music in my head as I watched it. ;D
Re: Pear's n Ivy My first dog used to eat plums off our plum tree. And all the plums that had fallen off our plum tree. A lot of plums. Prunes are dried plums. And we know what prunes do. I used to dread plum season.
Re: Pear's n Ivy Lochan is a nightmare with our plum tree. She nicks the windfall and any she can reach, but very carefully spits out the stones - the stones look like they have been boiled there is so little left on them. Last weekend I found 33 stones - she had eaten 33 plums over a 12 hour period. Amazingly, no urgent requests for the garden in the middle of the night and ate the rest of the days food with relish as usual.
Re: Pear's n Ivy Lilly seems to spit the stones out sometimes.....other times I'm not convinced. I have this gnawing worry that in several years time she is going to some kind of surgical procedure, and the vet will find several pounds of stones stuck in her stomach Anxious mother syndrome. Not so anxious that I can be bothered clearing them all in my PJs in the morning before she goes out. Season is over for this year........and breathe......
Re: Pear's n Ivy Chepi spent a lot of the summer eating plums from my tree, spitting out the stones. The stones are poisonous as are peach stones.
