We are a large family of 4 children and waited until they were all old enough to go on walks, help with feeding, training etc. We got Hattie a Labradoodle from a lovely lady, when we arrived 11 beautiful fluffy puppies greeted us at the gate, we all looked at each other and wondered how on earth we were ever going to choose one. We spent hours talking with the breeder getting all the information we needed but still couldn't choose. Eventually Joseph my 3rd child who has High Functioning Autism sat on the step and Hattie waddled over and sat right next to him looking up at him, I will never forget that image :'( so that was it Hattie came home with us and what a wonderful girl she is, now 7 years old we can't imagine our lives without her :*

For a long while we talked about getting a rescue dog as there are so many dogs needing good homes. I searched and searched and eventually I saw a picture of Charlie a Labrador x Pointer, aw that's it he's the one for us :* little did we know what we were letting ourselves in for  ;D. I contacted the rescue home, we had our home check and passed. One week later we drove to Surrey with the children and Hattie to visit Charlie. Again it was Joseph who sealed the deal, Charlie went straight to him rolled on his back and snuggled upto Joseph, Charlie stole our hearts and he came home with us that day :). He was 9 months old when he came storming into our lives and I mean storming

Hattie & Charlie have enriched our lives beyond anything I could have ever imagined even the naughty one CHARLIE we love them so much xxx

I am loving reading your stories and admit to shedding a tear or two :'( xx

After losing one old dog and with our other chap turning 13, we decided it was time to start looking for a puppy. We researched and searched, looked at several litters that we liked but all the puppies were sold, or else there was something not quite right (we didn't like the set up at one place; OH didn't like the mother dog at another place, the timing was wrong at another, the parents hadn't been hip scored at another place...). Eventually we heard through friends of friends of a working line black bitch mated to a super working sire, with a litter of pups. I was looking for another male black dog, but there was only one puppy left in this litter - a small reddish-gold female, four weeks old. We agreed then and there we would take her when she was eight weeks old. :)

Poppy was completely different to my two other dogs, and it took me quite some time to bond with her. She was so rough with my old boy Bones that I sometimes didnt even like her very much. To me, she didnt even really look like a labrador puppy - I used to say she was a long-legged Dachshund!! But over the weeks and months I became very fond of her, and now we have a tremendous bond and I love her to bits and am tremendously proud of her. :D

What lovely but also sad stories, and what a tribute to all our wonderful dogs who are no longer with us, what an imprint they have left on our lives.

I find that having now experienced the loss of two beloved family pets, it makes me cherish my two boys even more and the little things that would have annoyed me (like wet muddy paw prints down my best suit dress when i came home from work today....) are now the things that make me smile, cos i remember how heartbreaking it was to clean those muddy paw prints from the floor and wet nose prints from the glass door for the very last time :'(
