What colours can dogs see?

    I wonder if anyone can help with this one. I remember reading somewhere that dogs see certain colours better than others, but which colours or is this untrue? Thanks. Helen x

    As I understand it, dogs see in shades of yellow and blue rather than what we see ie red, yellow and blue. I think it means they can't distinguish green yellow or red objects except so far as one might be brighter than the others. Orange dummies for example are hard for a dog to see when lying in green grass.

    I read an interesting article about deer recently. They have similar colour vision I think. Apparently American hunters wear bright orange jackets so they don't get shot themselves, but the deer can't really pick it out from the background. But if the hunter washes the jacket in ordinary detergent with whiteners in it, it reflects UV light strongly which the deer can see and the hunter then stands out like a bright blue beacon. ;D
