Sam is not brave , if another strange dog comes up to him, all bristling, tail held high, Sam will instantly go into defence , sometimes even rolling onto his back in total surrender . He hasnt got a confrontational bone in his big body , loves to interact with others but a complete coward if he feels threatened .
Why then , indoors and safe, does he growl at critters on the television , even going up close to the screen and acting all hard and tough ;D ;D For some strange reason, penquins are his nemesis ;D

Penguins. The natural enemy of the Labrador.

Maybe Sam thinks that critters in his house are a step too far and it's his duty to fend them off. Or maybe he's bothered by the bad animal acting.

Obi watches the TV occasionally too but only really when there are dogs or wolves on. When we first got him he had been an outside dog and had probably never seen a TV. The first time he saw it on he went and looked behind it.

Lady is the same. Goes flat for an approaching dog then rolls over. Unless it's dogs she knows really well but even then she goes flat for the initial greeting. That's all except when she's working. For some unknown reason she is full of confidence greeting the other dogs in the farmyard before we set out for the day.

In the house anything that moves in the street has to be barked at and she looks back to make sure we know there is DANGER out there.

She does watch the TV but hasn't any issues with penguins so I think you'll just have to work that one out yourself, Kate. ;D

I haven't seen Digby watch TV but am obviously watching the wrong kind of programmes. My aunt and uncle were baby/dog sitting for me last week and watched For the love of dogs with Paul O'Grady - apparently he was fascinated - I'll have to give it a go.

Poppy hops on the couch expectantly, clearly ready for a snuggle, when she hears the opening bars of Eastenders... ::)
