That's where Mira is right now! She was lying outside drying off after her second scrub down of the day (and yes, she still smells of fox poo :) I was pottering in the kitchen. Hadn't noticed her get up and head to the bottom of the garden, but just heard a loud crack and looked up to see that we no longer have a plum tree! We put the tree in about 2 years ago so it is still quite slender. Had a quite a few plums on it this year which we had to pick a couple of weeks back as she was standing on her hind legs trying (and sometimes succeeding) to pick them. There was one green one from a late bit of blossom which we left. It has just started to turn red and madam had spotted it. It was pretty high so she must have leapt at it, grabbed the whole branch and broken the trunk level with the stake on the way down. Not happy. And did I mention she STINKS!!! No sofa time for her tonight

Re: In the dog house If the trunk is actually broken right off, I'd be tempted to cut the trunk at an angle below the break and hope for shoots - then train a new leader. I've never successfully repaired even a nearly completely broken branch/trunk. But best of luck with it!

It was absolutely munched. But we bound it up together and put a splint on it (an old pair of tights worked really well as a bandage) and it did grow back together again! Glad to say Pongo doesn't seem to want to try this sort of gardening...
Re: In the dog house Oh dear, sympathies. Our pooch chewed quite a substantial patch of bark off our plum tree the first week we had him...it did survive, thankfully. Not sure how it will do after a very early snow here accumulated on it and broke half the tree off... :-\
Re: In the dog house OH broke our new little apple tree by dropping a big fir tree on top of it, that he was chopping down with the chain saw. I was jolly cross... Anyway, he tied the trunk back together, and it seems to be surviving... luckily for him :
