Hi everyone.. I'm going to visit Bob this weekend and the breeder asked me to take along a blanket to leave with him until we pick him up. I don't really want to spend loads of money on a new blanket - we've got enough expenses coming up anyway! So I was looking at what we had already.. I've got a double bed sized fleece blanket going spare OR a cot blanket which our little boy used when he was a baby. The cot blanket is really tiny though, it covered the cot in a single layer... Also it's cotton, not fleece so I don't think it will be as snuggly. Would either of these be suitable do you think? Or too big/too small?! Thank you for your advice. Lou x
Re: What size blanket for puppy?! Go with the small one Or you could just get a small piece of vetbed which shouldn't be too expensive. Don't forget to take some photos! We looooooove puppy photos ;D

But I guarantee you will want to buy some vetbed when he arrives - it is absolutely fabulous - so why not get ahead of the game and get a piece now, cut off a nice-sized bit (about the same size as your baby blanket) and take that? Then he'll have a lovely, snuggly fleece to bring home with him that smells just right as well as being warm and comforting. Rosie (and Pongo, who at 10 months has now outgrown his vetbed but still plays with it every day as his favourite chewtoy and friend).

Re: What size blanket for puppy?! Basically anything will do. It doesn't need to be smart as it will go in with the litter and my God it will pong when you collect it with your pup. I left a soft toy with the breeder, but when I picked Molly up the breeder supplied us with a towel from the puppy pen.

Quick question would you buy blanket/bedding to fit the divided off bit of the crate or the whole crate to start with? Lou x

Re: What size blanket for puppy?! We took a small piece of old blanket a couple of weeks before we picked Mira up - it got totally destroyed! Fortunately she had little problem settling with us. We had a supply of old blankets which I rolled up to divide/fill the crate, but she really didn't seem bothered whether they were there or not :-\
Re: What size blanket for puppy?! When we picked up Lemmy they gave us a peice of there bedding that smelt of his mum and litter. When we got him home I had a fur throw I put this on floor next to my armchair and he curled right up on it. he has a solid sided kidney shaped bed in kitchen and his blanky is now in there on top of single duvet. ( very cosy) he now takes himself off to bed quite happily all his toys are in toy box next to it and he normally has his soft toys in with him. Good luck with new puppy. X

I took a hand towel but it was removed because ALL of the puppies would have bonded with my smell and bringing home the smell of the litter would have made it harder for the pup. Far better to bond with me and look to me as the new family. You may not agree but it has logic. Anyway, lots of contact with the new pup will help it feel less traumatised. Good luck!

[/quote] I didnt take anything to the breeders for exactly that reason. Bouncer came home with me at 7 1/2 eeks old (unavoidable circumstances) bt because he didnt bring anything with him that smelt like his litter or mum he has not pined for them once.
