Bella is 8 months old and she was spayed 7 days ago, today she is bleeding red blood from her 'ladies bit' (sorry didn't know how else to put it).I have called the vets and they said keep an eye on it and if it gets worse to ring back. I'm now really worried. Has anyone had this happen?
Re: Bleeding after spay How much is she bleeding? If only a spot or two then don't worry, if any more than that quick trip back to the vets. It is not uncommon for this to happen - there is a ligature on her cervix holding everything in place after the rest has been removed. Sometimes this ligature rubs through a small capillary during the healing process and you can get some spots of blood.
Re: Bleeding after spay Never had it happen with ours but I have known others have the problem, unless it's a lot of blood rest and keep and eye on her would be my advice. Any more than a few drops of blood I would be asking the vet to see her though as I would be worried too.
Re: Bleeding after spay Thanks for your replies, I wish the vet nurse had explained it like that Lochan. I would say it is maybe slightly more than just spotting. Just hoping she doesn't have to go back in.

Re: Bleeding after spay Just thought I would let you know Bella has been to the vets today to have her stitches removed.the bleeding was possibly due to a tight cervix, don't understand fully but bleeding has now turned pink so hopefully it is getting better. Vet said she was fine and to take her back if the bleeding doesn't stop but I don't think that will be the case. She's full of beans, eating well and just had lovely walk. Thanks for all your help
