Took Harley for a check up at the vets due to the gastroenteritis last week. All fine in that department But.......she has kennel cough :'( don't know where she has picked it up from as hasn't had any contact with other dogs in the last 5/6 days! Today is the last day of the antibiotics so no more needed. Her cough is a bit better today than the last few days. Just feel it's never ending and wondering where I gave gone so wrong for her to be so poorly :'(
Re: Will it ever end??? Poor girl ,and you too Ternaya . If its any comfort , her immune system should be starting to strengthen any time now , this will help her to fight off bugs and infections .Its a bit like young children who catch everything and then once they get to around 7/8 ish , they have built up a good amount of immunity . Not much comfort right now, but it should get better real soon
Re: Will it ever end??? Don't be so hard on yourself Naya, you have done your best. With someone less dedicated she may have been much worse. To add to Kate's analogy. When my daughter was younger she caught everything, I used to say that if a germ came in the village one end it would travel all the way to our end to find Dawn. However, my son raised in the same way, same environment, well I reckon they ran away from him, because he never got anything
Re: Will it ever end??? Poor you - it's just a run of bad luck, nothing you could have done otherwise. Molly had kennel cough a few months ago and she recovered quickly, so I'm sure Harley will soon be fit and well again.
Re: Will it ever end??? Hang in there Ternaya; I am sure things will get better soon. Poor little Harley - and poor you!
Re: Will it ever end??? You didn't do anything wrong, its just bad luck. I do hope she is feeling better soon.
Re: Will it ever end??? Poor Harley I think she has just been unlucky - like some people who seem to get one thing wrong after another. Hope she is feeling better soon
Re: Will it ever end??? Ah Ternaya, sorry to read tis,I agree with Kate, her immune system will be low making it easy to pick up things...nothing you've done at all and she's a lucky girl to have such a conscientious owner who takes her to the vet as soon as there is so etching amiss.fingers crossed this marks the end of your run,big hug x
Re: Will it ever end??? Oh dear, poor you. {{{hugs}}} for you both. Hope you both feel a little better soon and things get more back to normal xxx
Re: Will it ever end??? As everyone has said, very young dogs are still developing their immune systems and are very susceptible to every bug. Obi got ringworm and kennel cough soon after we got him, plus assorted other skin infections. At 2.5 he's much tougher now. It will get better
Re: Will it ever end??? Thank you all. Was feeling very low and stressed earlier due to work and Harley being poorly plus we had an awful walk where she pulled horrendously and I got shouted up by another dog owner when I moved out of the way of him and his dog - he went to let his dog come over and I said no as Harley has kennel cough - he then swore at me and told me I shouldn't be out if the house. Vet has reassured me that I should be walking her, but no off lead and no contact with other dogs. Just been one of those days. Fingers crossed tomorrow will be better :
Re: Will it ever end??? Poor you, it is just simply a run of bad luck, and absolutely no reflection on you! Harley is a very lucky girl to have such a caring and thoughtful owner. Hope she feels better soon, Benson is very concerned that his two favourite ladies are a bit down in the dumps.
Re: Will it ever end??? Sorry you have been having such a rough time; I hope Harley is feeling better today.
Re: Will it ever end??? Riley was the same at that age, I thought I'd got a really sickly dog. He's pretty robust these days though so it does get better x We also walked him on lead while he had kennel cough and I called out to people really early so they stayed away. You're doing all the right things!
Re: Will it ever end??? Harley has only coughed 3 times today which is an improvement. She has been very cuddly today We are doing 3x20/30 min walks a day which is helping and giving us time to practise lead walking 'nicely'. I'm in a better frame of mind today after speaking with my boss and my husband - think I was trying to ram too much into one day!
Re: Will it ever end??? Naya, yet again I'm just catching up now. I hope Harley is feeling better. I think you've just been incredibly unlucky lately in that Harley seems to pick up everything that's going round. Perhaps her body was under stress from when she had the pyo which made her immune system more vulnerable to all the bugs around at the moment.
Re: Will it ever end??? You've probably hit the nail on the head Lauren - her body was still recovering so that would make sense :
