Re: Lack of sleep - again!
You must feel better for a good night's sleep. I would have done the same.
Thanks Joy! I do feel like I have failed a little bit, but the thought of getting decent sleep has taken over!
Re: Lack of sleep - again! Glad you've found something that works! My pooch sleeps on his bed beside me, generally he doesn't wake me up, unless he has to get up in the night because of being sick, or something.
Re: Lack of sleep - again! You are not a failure Debs. It was probably meant to be and what harm is there in it? Enjoy your sleep!
Re: Lack of sleep - again! Harley came upstairs with us when she was poorly at 4/5 months old. She started off on her bed, but is now usually on our bed. In all honesty she is known to come to bed with us about 11pm and sleep through til at least 10am if not later. When I get up at 8am during the week I have to drag her out of bed! Don't see it as a failure, just a different method to keep your sanity
Re: Lack of sleep - again! Obi sleeps in our room or on our bed and we have peace and quiet. It's not a failure on your part at all I honestly think it's the easiest solution. And I think it's what many dogs really want. Sometimes they can be unsettled just because they feel a bit isolated.
Re: Lack of sleep - again! This is nothing to do with "failure". Charlie never barked, never whined, always was quiet until I got up. He still sleeps in our bedroom now. OH made excuse after excuse "it's too cold" "it's windy and there is a tree near the back of the house so it's not safe for him to sleep downstairs" : "he's poorly". I gave in. To be honest, I often leave them to it, and sleep in the spare room. I love them both really. Honestly, I do. What do you want? image by julieandcharlie, on Flickr image by julieandcharlie, on Flickr
Re: Lack of sleep - again! Not a failure at all, if it wasn't for fear of me having to sleep on the floor with two full grown labs in the bed then my boys would be allowed to sleep upstairs when they are old enough ;D maybe OH could go on the floor..... On a serious note, is there something that is waking her at that time? we had an issue with our last two waking about 3am and barking like mad, it took a few nights to realise that the milkman came to next doors and as we have a shared drive, he ran right past the window of the room they were in with clinking bottles and the gate made a noise!
Re: Lack of sleep - again! Thank you everyone.....it's good to know that there are labs across the country snoozing away with their owners!! ;D ;D Just trying to convince her that she needs to be in her bed and not mine :! Hmmm, we'll see!!! Lou, there doesn't appear to be anything outside waking her up! In fact, she is stlll waking at 5am and hopping on the bed and then sleeping through until 7am!! I love the Charlie photo! What an expression on his face!!
Re: Lack of sleep - again! Glad to hear your getting some sleep bet to you feel much better. Sure the little poppet is much happier too. X
Re: Lack of sleep - again! It's your choice entirely! My first dog, Boogie, always slept on our bed. My Gavin slept downstairs with Callum 'till his brother died, then he slept by our bed in his bed. I couldn't have him up on the bed as he was very old and his bladder wasn't entirely reliable at night. But, since having the children, I have become a really light sleeper - I simply wouldn't sleep with snory, snuffly Tatze! So she had to learn to sleep downstairs. We all have our own solutions and ways - often different with different dogs. In no way is it a failure, just a different way of doing things.
