I think some of you know that Sams Mum had her last litter of pups, same sire too, back in January and I was offered one but declined , they are all now settled happily in new homes apart from the one that the breeder has kept .
At the time, it just didnt seem like the right thing to do although I was very tempted indeed , I like this breeder a lot , pups are not churned out like a factory production line, they are socialised with family children at an early age, she also has grandmother and aunt so the pups are also mixing with them and also the sire and dam have excellent hips, elbows and eyes , both field trials dogs.
I now quite regret my decision , although on the other hand I wonder if I would have expected the pup to be just like Sam and I dont like to make comparrisons, its unfair all round but I must admit that Sam has been the easiest pup to own , calm, biddable and solemn .
I am now just considering another Lab pup , nothing set in stone as yet , I have a husband to convince but he is easily led :) I would like opinions on male or female ? I always thought that a male/female mix was ideal but have also owned two bitches and two dogs together with no problems at all but I havent ever had two Labs together so just seeking thoughts really, thats if we do go ahead of course . Also, is he at a good age to bring another Lab into the equasion ? Sam is almost two years old , thanks for any imput .

I have no experience of this but I read somewhere that a dog/bitch mix was generally less likely to fail. A dog walking aquaintance has one of a bitch/bitch pairing that didn't work out when they started to fight, but I'm sure that's not typical.

How exciting though! I'd quite like a second lab to keep Lady company but all sorts of considerations make that impossible for us.

Kate, when we decided on a second dog I contacted Hattie's breeder to ask Dog or Bitch, and she said Dog as it was less likely to be a problem. Hattie is definitely in charge! :D Lots of lovely labradors and labrador puppies on the MT rescue site ;) Good luck in whatever you choose to do. Helen xx

I have two male Labradors, one aged 7 years and the other 16 months, the 7 year old is neutered and the younger one is entire, so far no problems at all.

I have two bitches six months apart in age, both neutered and never a cross word between them. I think it depends on their temperaments as individuals. My sister's oldest is female, but it was apparent from a very early age she would not tolerate another bitch in the house without trouble hence Debs second is a boy. And poor Brodick - he is definitely at the bottom of the heap when all four are together.
