Having eight puppies to look after is exhausting but great fun! If only I could do this as a job. Although the bill for using my washing machine would go through the roof - a couple of minutes of the pups running around on dewy morning grass and then jumping up and I'm filthy. In the best way possible, though!

Now, I'm going to sound like a complete soppy moron, but it's as if our chosen girl recognises us from last week. She, way more than the others, keeps running up to me and my husband and wanting attention from us. I'm going to be told off for putting human logic and emotion onto her, but it's like she *knows* she's ours (or, more accurately, "we're hers"). My logical head says it cannot be, but I prefer to go with the soppy moron option. Humour me ;)

    Well, it's obvious that you're a perfect match :)

How long now till you can take her home?

Convinced they know more than we think. Watched a documentary that proved how empathetic dogs are to owners emotions tone of voice etc. She can probably pick up how excited you are and probably more eye contact for your girl than others etc. Bet you can't wait to get her home new puppy home days are the best. X

What a lovely experience for you, to see your pup with her brothers and sisters for so long. I'm sure she knows you. :) Will the others be leaving the nest at the same time?

No. There are two that are being kept by the breeder to become a working pair, and he's keeping another one to train up for his boss (he's groundskeeper at a massive chateau). Luckily, he's experienced at it - training three puppies would freak me out! Then there's two that are going to two different couples, but they're both (independently) going on holiday so can't pick up for a couple more weeks. Then, there's two more that are yet to find homes - it's difficult to find suitable people to adopt here in rural France. The French aren't interested in paying for pedigree Labs and there's not many Brits here. There's a (small) change that we might take another one if they can't find him a home and after he's been trained the basics to a good standard. I don't have the capability to take two at this age, but it might work out later on. But if any of you know anyone in southern France who would give a good pedigree (and KC-registered) puppy a home, then please shout! Because of the lack of interest here, they're going cheap - only €400 a piece.

So, for the short term, there will continue to be seven pups here, with two more leaving a few weeks later. That will then leave him with five to manage alongside his current three dogs :D

Indeed! And it's fun to see all their individual personality quirks. There's the noisy one, the bitey ones, the ones that are ALWAYS the centre of any mischief, the quiet one, the ones that love belly rubs, those that aren't bothered....

Our little monster (we're close to settling on "Willow") LOVES a good belly rub, is super cuddly, not very bitey (that could change!) and just the right amount of mischief. She's also a real growler when playing tug with the others, which is hysterical to hear coming from such a small creature. Fierce ;)

Willow, what a lovely name. As for being "not very bitey" that willl definitely 100% change.

And don't worry about being "told off " on the forum.
Chepi chose me at 4 and a half weeks and when I picked her up at 8 weeks she was all over me snuggling into my neck. I would think they remember person smells and the sound of your voice. Have a lovely time and take more photos than you think you'll need and you will love it when you look back on them in a few months.
