Re: 2nd puppy Interesting . Only joking. I have heard that they shouldn't be from the same litter. I have also heard that you should train one at a time so you would need double training time if they were the same age. I suppose it depends on if they are puppies or need a lot of training. Some people wait until the first dog is a couple of years old. Then again, life doesn't always allow you to plan ahead always.

Re: 2nd puppy Betty was only 13 months when we got Elsie I can't say it's easy, both are still so full of beans they lead each other into naughtiness and some behaviours (wall paper stripping) we thought we had stopped now we have two of them doing it. Play fighting is pretty brutal too neither really know the limits so we have to step in often or the squeal of someone being hurt rings out. Walking is harder as they are both still needing training but at different things so it's a full on thing all going for a walk. Elsie is on a halti head collar and Betty a normal lead so 3 leads and 2 dogs. If Betty was same size as Elsie would be 4 leads for 2 dogs. I would recommend waiting until one is old enough to lead the other in a good way. Another sad thing is two close in age as our previous two were (both rescues) they died within a year of each other and the devastation that left us with I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
Re: 2nd puppy Riley's 3 and we've just got our 2nd pup. It's hard work trying to get Riley walked and trained while house training and socialising a pup who hasn't had his second jabs yet......at least Riley is easy to walk and well behaved round the house Obi on the other hand is a whirling dervish that desperately wants to get on the sofa(as that's where the fun is at - he thinks) and rips up anything remotely destroyable :

Re: 2nd puppy Tatze was 16 months when Gypsy arrived - they are great together, but all training is done completely separately, including walks.
Re: 2nd puppy Personally I would never take on another puppy while I'm still training the first. But it all depends on your level of tolerance for chaos, and how much time you have for doing the training, some of which would have to be separate. But I've never had more than one dog at a time, so take all that with a grain of salt...
Re: 2nd puppy I have read so many posts on forums where people with puppies of 6-8 months are seriously considering getting another puppy because they feel that their current puppy is such an angel, perfectly behaved with no behaviour issues. So I try to warn them about what might be to come and maybe it might be a good idea not to get another puppy right now! Then their pups hit 10-12 months and it's like they change into some hideous puppy that they don't recognise, some even think that there is something seriously wrong with them! Their behaviour changes, they stop listening to you and generally become a pain in the bum. The teenage years can be a really testing time for dog owners. Seriously, I think you would be making a big mistake to get a second puppy now. You have lots of hard work ahead of you for the next 12 months with training your current puppy! Chloe
Re: 2nd puppy I have always been advised against getting two puppies from the same litter at the same time, however I know people that have done it, and it can be done successfully. Personally I would want to wait until the existing dog is at least a year old - get through adolescence first because in some cases that can be just as bad as having a brand new puppy again! I am incredibly broody for another puppy right now, and by my own rules it would be a suitable time - Penny is over 18 months old now and adolescence is well and truly past, however because of other behavioural issues we need to get straightened out I can't see us introducing another dog (puppy or adult) until she is nearly 3.
