Sorry me again folks.... crates and bedding. We've got a 42" crate and I've partitioned it off at around the 20" mark to make a smaller crate space for Bob to start with. (Is that about the right size do you think or could we go smaller?!)

My question is regarding bedding... I really like this petlife vetbed I think it's worth investing in for the crate as we will be crate training and I want it to be as lovely and snuggly as possible. Now it isn't cheap... so I wonder do I order a small piece to fit just the cordoned off area? Or shall I just get a large piece to fit the entire crate for Bob to 'grow into'?

And then there is the question of when I wash it I'll need something else to put in while it dries... does that mean I need 2 pieces?! Cos it's really starting to add up now! A large piece of VB is around £37!

Or shall I get 2 small pieces (£20 each) so I can wash one and use one and throw a normal fleecy blanket in as well to pad it out?!

What do you guys put in the car as well? We've got a dog guard like this one below. Again, just a fleecy blanket in here? Think vetbed is a bit OTT really?

This time next week we will be collecting Bob TOMORROW! OMG!

Thanks for your help guys and gals - exciting times!

    Lou x :D

I got mine on ebay too :D
I find the Vetbed dries very quickly, so it is dry by bedtime if I wash it in the morning.
In the car I have a old crocheted blanket with a bathmat on top!! Not as mad as it sounds (I hope) - it is deep pile microfiber and about twice the size of a normal bathmat. A lucky find in Lidl for £5. Soaks up mud and water and washes brilliantly :D

    Hey Lou,
Nice to see you on the Forum,it's so exciting getting all the preparations done.Whose the good looking family member in the back of the car?
I've got a piece of vetbed in the crate .....your post have made me think about it to be honest..it's definately past it's best but he hardly uses the crate now he's 2. I've got cotton ikea blankets on his other beds ...white ??? Wasn't the best colour to choose but I've got about 6 so they do get rotated very regularly...I also use one of the blankets if I want him to settle somewhere in the house or garden where he hasn't got a bed ..bit easier than lugging beds around ::)
In the back of the car I've got some cheap Lino down ( don't recommend that for a puppy though ,,it will get chewed for sure) and I put a big towel over it ...we live in Dubai so our issues are sand ;D Lino and a towel are easy to lift out shake and replace ;D.we've got a dog guard up like you too x
Not long to wait until you are picking Bob up x

Vet bed is much cheaper on ebay.

I get a large piece for £12 and it is excellent quality, I have had some for 5 years!

Hi Boogie, I've just ordered 2 large pieces of the stuff you recommended.. it's £22.90 for both! Grey with black paws... that'll do us for the crate... he'll just have to use half of it for a while while he's cordoned off. I'll find something else to throw into the car... I like the bath mat idea... when we are out and about more he'll have muddy feet so I don't want to go crazy and order a nice blanket. I'll have a look around..

    Thank you for your help!

Hi Dexter.. thank you! The picture of the dog guard was highjacked from the internet so I've no idea who the pooch is! He's cute though! I'll put up a proper pic of Bob in the car when we've got him :) On the day we collect him I know he's likely to be sick.. would it be better do you think for one of us to carry him on that first journey or shall we just put him straight in the back of the car? Never really thought about that before! I know we will be out and about quite a bit so would like him to get used to the car as soon as possible really.

There is so much to think about - my brain hurts.. think I'll go and pour myself a large glass of wine lol!

OK I think it's gonna cost too much to send back the other vetbed roll that I bought previously.. I was sending it back because I was easily able to pull the fluff off from around the edges where it had been cut. But I worked out I would have paid £14 in postage costs if I send it back.. If I keep it as a reserve/back up.. how would I seal the edges? Would you use a flame? Anyone done this before?

Lou you could just use the spare on your floor as an extra place for your pup to flop. If you keep an eye on your pup you should notice if he/she starts to chew then obviously take it away. I haven't heat sealed mine so not sure how to do it but was advised to if I cut it.
20" sounds ok for your crate. I have a 42" one too and we are at about 32" with Chepi approaching 6 months (she is not big and chunky). I use vetbed in the car crate too. :)

Thanks Jane :) I'll have a think ... seems crazy to spend £14 on postage and end up with nothing to show for it lol! Maybe I could put it in the car with an old sheet over it for muddy paws...

I'd be careful about wafting it near a naked flame as not sure how flammable it is - maybe someone knows? Would hate for it to go up in flames  I guess you want a 'safe' source of heat like an iron, but it might ruin the sole plate :-\

If you think this means the goods are faulty, the seller should pay the return postage costs.

I don't think so as it was sold as a roll.... X

If that's all it is, eg it's been cut with scissors, the loose pile will soon go. Just pull off as much as you can and then wash it. If you want to cut it, cut it on the reverse with a stanley knife.

In the back of my car I have a couple of "magic mats".
Like these only mine were £4 or £5 each out of home bargain or nickel and dime or somewhere similar.
Lilly always "digs up" and bedding/towels/blankets as she prefers to sit on the solid bottom of the car. The mats are adsorbant and non slip. I reckon the non-slip vet bed would be acceptable to her though - as long as it isn't something "loose". Not tried it though.
