I was completely easy as to what colour we had.

My husband had the bias - "Chocolates are nutty and yellows show the dirt, we'll have a black"!

I wonder why assistance dogs don't use chocolates? Is it due to prejudice or reality?

Pippa may comment here as she has a choccy gundog :)

Personally I'd love to have one of each!

Yes - that's a US charity (Who do share studs with the UK)

I wonder if any UK charities use choccies?

When we collected Benson as a pup, 3 out of a previous litter where chosen as some sort of assistance dogs, I think the same mum as Benson but a different father :)

:) How exciting for your family new puppy feeling is the best. Don't worry about the chocy thing Mums had two in last twenty years sadly Dylan is quite old and poorly but she wouldn't have had it any other way both chocs have been brilliant most placid easy going and well trained dogs I've known. I got a black lab but only because he was from an all black litter bar one pup and the guys son had him. Good luck with your search. X

I'm not quite sure why you suggest they don't? Dogs for the disabled have a chocolate on their front page, and I've noticed chocolate guide dogs before - a quick google throws up a few stories about chocolate lab guide dogs in the UK (and in Ireland) eg Neela was a chocolate lab and was the one that was attacked by pitbulls a while back.

I've had all three colours though Holly is my first yellow. Now that I can see the dirt I can only guess how much mud the other dogs brought into the house without my noticing :)

There are none in the breeding programme at the moment for Guide Dogs as far as I know. I would love to puppy walk one and will ask for one next time, if there is one around at the time :)

Also on a very dark night hard to see. That heart in your mouth moment where you think oh no I've lost him and then he pops out of the dark corners of the garden.

For me there was no other choice than to have a choc, love them and yes I have come across some very strange comments but I just put it down to jealousy. Lol

Choccy is a hard colour to spot. Cocoa was the stealth labrador - she could stand still in the woods and blend into the background. On one occasion I was calling for her for several minutes but she was lying under a bush 20 feet away. I didn't see her until she moved!
