I've had problems with a few dogs (that live together) recently - they seem to act very differently from single dogs. Dogs approaching in pairs have very different body language from a dog approaching alone - it's quite striking, I think.

If we are in a busy dog area I keep one of mine on the lead. They are very good at meeting and greeting other dogs but I don't want to risk that changing. Obviously, in the woods etc they both are off lead.

    :)

Just catching up a bit Ternaya. Sorry you have had this awful walk....and that you feel you can't go there again alone. That is very sad.
I hope you both are feeling a bit better today.

We just went to the local football field tonight. A local dog walker was there with 2 very large breed dogs, both on lead. I put Harley on lead and we let them say hello - Harley was hesitant at first, tail underneath her etc so we left it a few mins until she was happier, then I let Harley off and he let the husky off - no problems :) he then let the other dog off (not sure what breed) and again no problems :) feeling much better :)
I'm going to try Wapley Comon and a few others that have been suggested to me over the next 2 weeks.

Oh Naya what a horrid experience :( just after you'd had such a nice one with the Beanwood clan too!

It's all well and good for the other owners to say 'oh they're only playing' but they need to realise that not all dogs tolerate the same level! Some like it rough whilst others get a bit intimidated. I do agree with others who have said that it's a pack mentality type of thing - the two boxers knew each other and had back up so were able to pick on the weaker dog. Poor Harley. I hope you're both feeling better now.

With reference to the corrector sprays I would be very wary in using them. For a while we had them in our 'dog fight kits' at the kennels as part of our range of equipment for splitting up fights on the, thankfully rare, occasions they happened. They have to be used exactly right to avoid either hurting the dog or creating a negative association. I've seen too many people just spray it in the dogs face (kind of like you would with pepper spray) and obviously it doesn't have the effect they were hoping for - it just shows the dog that when they are in that sort of situation again they get something horrible and painful sprayed in their eyes. It's a pressurised CO2 spray but can actually cause burns and eye problems when used incorrectly. You have to be so careful and I am actually against them being sold in pet shops to the general public who most likely will misuse them - even if unintentionally.

Hope all is well with you and Harley now, Ternaya. Just disgraceful on the part of those owners...
