Hi, I've noticed recently that Maisie's nose has started to change colour. It was really not very obvious to start with, but today it really does look quite pink. Also, while sitting with her just now I've noticed that her dew claw and carpal pads look pink as well. I'm sure they are normally black! Any ideas? Re: Nose changing colour Nothing to worry about and totally normal for yellow Labs as winter approaches. As the days shorten there is reduced production of a hormone that affects skin colour pigmentation - and the nose gets lighter. It will get darker again next summer, but probably not as dark as it was when she was a pup.
Re: Nose changing colour Thanks Rachael, I must admit I did have a little panic when I saw the pads had lost colour as well!! That's really interesting about the skin changing colour over the winter months, you learn something new every day!
Re: Nose changing colour No worries! Odin's sister who is a yellow lab had a nose black as coal when she was a puppy. Now at 1,5 years its pinkish. Same color as his mothers nose who is also yellow.

Re: Nose changing colour Holly started with a black nose but it turned pink over her first year. It's very normal for yellow Labs.
Re: Nose changing colour Penny's nose changed colour when she got to about 8 months old, which did coincide with winter actually! She had this beautiful little black nose and now it's faded to a brown/pink. I didn't notice it get darker when the summer came around again though. It's known as 'snow-nose' in some breeds that are particularly prone to it like huskies and malamutes. I didn't notice anything to do with her pads though.
