I think Haley did a reverse sneeze this morning...it scared me! She did it towards the beginning of her walk. Yesterday she did it in the middle of her walk...we stopped and I rubbed her throat to calm her down.
She has never done it before yesterday...is it normal? Also is it ok that she did it yesterday and today?
She seems fine other then that...ran around the field that we were headed to this morning, ate all of her breakfast, seems happy

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Yes, my one German Pointer did it a lot, it does seem alarming at the time but it appeared to do her no harm. My one Lab did it a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I usually just gently massage their throats and act calm!

Check it is reverse sneezing and not the beginning of Kennel Cough seems very prevalent at the moment.

when Cuillin was a puppy she did this on one of her first off lead walks - I got a real fright too, called my vet sister and her vet husband, had her hubbie listening while I held the phone down at Cuillin height and he confirmed it was a reverse sneeze! Cuillin does it a lot, Brodick only does it when he has been face first down a rabbit hole (which actually is quite a lot too :).

I think this happened only once with Kenzi and I did very much the same thing, afterward I was told by my Dog trainer at the time to stop it you gently place your hand over their mouth/nose and it should stop...I have no idea if that is correct as K didn't seem to do it again.

I have never heard of this and none of my dogs have ever done it, at least in my presence! I looked it up on YouTube. That's a horrible noise and I'd be really worried if Willow did that if I'd not known about it, so thanks for educating me!

Someone said that blowing into their faces sometimes helps because if forces them to swallow, which interrupts the spasm. Clearly I have no idea if this is true, but it may be something to keep in mind if it happens again :-\

Thanks for your replies. I do think it is just a reverse sneeze...I have done a little more research haha
Haley has always been...snorty haha I think she has a small allergy because in the Spring she would sneeze when she was outside in the grass. Maybe she has some Autumn allergies as well.

She doesn't have a cough, and doesn't make a honking sound so I am fairly certain it isn't kennel cough

Having a Chihuahua we are well used to this, best way to stop them is pick them up and wave them up and down. Wouldn't want to try that with a Labrador though ! a 5lb dog is plenty big enough to do that to !
