Hello, all! I've just adopted a sweet 12 week old girl pup named Sasha. She's done quite well in the kennel in the 6 days we've had her, but I still expect the occasional wee in there when we are gone for a number of hours. I've lined the kennel with newspaper, but have found it to be a real mess to clean up. I purchased some Hartz Home Protection Pads with Flash-Dry to put under the newspaper. These pads are made with the same stuff they put in baby diapers to wick away moisture. So far, she's not too bad about shredding the papers, but I just got to thinking a few moments ago about the possible risks to her should she decide to eat through the papers and into the pads below. The Hartz website makes no comments about potential harm from this product, but I have concerns about their safety... Anyone have experience with pups eating this sort of thing? I think the remainder of the box may well hit the trash can! Thanks, Sue
Re: Kennel Wee Pads Hello there and a warm welcome to the forum. By kennel, do you mean a crate inside the house? From what you say your pup wees in the kennel/crate when you are out. This isn't going to help with toilet training at all - you don't want a pup to get used to weeing where she sleeps. This is because you need their instinct to keep their "den" clean to help you get her to see all of your house as her "den", so she won't wee in that either. If you can't have someone pop in and give your girl toilet breaks when you have to leave her, which is the best thing to do, it's best not to leave her in a crate longer than she can hold wee. The best thing to do is have a crate inside a pen with an area to toilet far away from where she sleeps. Maybe that's what you mean though? Anyway, I wouldn't have thought any reputable brand of puppy pad would harm your pup in terms of it being any worse than eating a large volume of paper anyway.
