Looks interesting....although I kinda want to do some clicker training on the guy to stop him from waving his hands around so much.... ;D

Oh, I have to get on to more training!! I definitely want to try "back up", just for fun. I also am going to look around for more tricks that Simba and I can work on over the looonngg winter months that are looming....

Just returned to this after doing other stuff.

First step back - with his head up, back straight, and no messiness from luring or using a lead (he will walk backwards on a lead but it's not pretty).

This was the very first step back. :) I thought I'd try it and get my video out for the first attempt. The entire thing has been shaped. :)

Sorry, no idea what's happened to the sound, but I'm clicking for the back leg moving.

Next step is to move the board further back, and get a clearer, more definite step with the back legs. After that, we should be motoring and get 2 steps - then we'll be away and have it on cue in no time.

    Famous last words....

    Brill ;D

a question....it sounds like you're clicking the second back leg that moves. Is that true and did you start by clicking the first leg that moved?

btw is that a chopping board with dog training written on it?

Yes, it's a chopping board with dog training written on it - didn't stop OH cutting his bread on it last night though. ::)

Well, that's a very good question about which back leg to click. Yes, I was clicking the second back leg...er...I hadn't really thought very hard about it though. :-[

This was the first attempt, at going backwards so I haven't clicked the back legs in this direction before. He just stepped back to the board (obviously, have spent lot of time clicking going to the board from all other directions but this was the first time I'd had him in the position for a step back to the board).

Which back leg should I click, I wonder?

I can't see the video, and I'm new to this as you know, but I'd have thought click the first leg until he "gets" that, then move onto the second leg and then keep asking more and more before the click? But if you're already doing it on the second leg and he understands that, I wouldn't go back to the first leg.

Maybe..I wouldn't want him to stop and move forwards after clicking one back leg when he is otherwise naturally just going to move the second. Well, that's what happened anyway. So I guess it's fine.

Early days though, usual these things end up not going to plan! We'll see what happens tomorrow...

so, is the idea that when he progresses, he backs away from you until his front feet are on the block? if so I'm a bit worried that on the way, his back feet might perhaps trip over the block first and interrupt the flow perhaps before the front feet reach the block. With Tamber I clicked for her back feet arriving at the mat (and eventually faded the mat)

It is a nice firm balanced and thoughtful backward step though and I loved his nose touch to camera !!

hmm...I don't know whether he'll trip over it. Maybe he will. I could introduce a mat for his back feet before I get there I suppose, that'd be easy at this point (I'll have a little way to go before his back feet are in front of the board...).
