    Hi all,

I'm curious, what level of increase are people finding when it comes to renewal time?

We're with Argos and the Platinum premium has just gone from £26/mth to £30/mth (so around a 15% increase). Harvey is 13 months old and we've made no claims. Is this fairly typical?

Sounds fairly typical of any insurance policy. Is that your automatic renewal figure? I've not had to renew pet insurance yet but I usually find they're at it with automatic renewals and will easily drop the price by quite a bit when I phone and challenge them.

We`re with Petplan at £36 per month. Our first year is nearly up and we`ve had one claim so I`m looking to see what will happen. Like Steph I`ll challenge them if the premium rises. I don`t mind accepting a 2-3% increase but 15% sounds a bit steep!!

We are also with Argos....same plan. Our first year it didn't go up. Second. Year it did but they changed their insurance underwriters. This year it stayed about the same. We pay it annually but about the same as you quote.
We were impressed it didn't go up the first year as we had made a claim AND her HD diagnosis was made.

We are with Pet Plan just had my renewal in and it's gone up by £80 from £420 to over £500 for both dogs and it's just the end of the first year we have been with them and no claim made, NOT HAPPY , no explanation, I have emailed them twice and nothing so phoning them later. Might shop around again or not insure as this is becoming quite crazy might aswell put the £500 away in a separate bank account for any vet trips :-\. xx

I'm with directline and have made 2 claims in the first year - my policy went up by about £1.50 per month. I pay roughly £20 per month.

Currently with PetPlan Jake is approx just over 2yrs old and the premium is £15.00 a month for the essential we are in a 2 months free period currently as new customers ,

Although we may decide to upgrade classic life cover which i believe is only a few pounds more so no were near £30.00 a month

I'm with Petplan too. I think my first year premiums were just over £30 (£33 maybe). I got my renewal in august and I can't say I noticed a change in price, and we've had a hefty level of claims in our first year for Penny's hip xrays and subsequent physiotherapy treatments.

I pay a hefty £55 a month for maximum everything life cover with pet plan.

Thought it was a waste of money until I sent them the bills from Charlie's cruciate op...my premiums have increased by £3 a month and I'll be sticking with them. Everything paid without question.

We aren't insured we keep an empty credit card for emergencies, when you look at the exclusions they just don't cover enough to warrant the prices IMO

OK, not at all happy :( Just visited the Argos site as a new customer to get a quote and guess what - it's fractionally cheaper than my premium for last year! I know they are a business and their objective is to make profit but this sort of approach just seems plain wrong.

Completely agree, it's wrong and not good business practice but I think they got away with it for so long, they just continue to push their luck. It's a shame as they must lose so much business meaning more money put into getting new business which means higher overheads which means higher premiums and so it goes on. Grrrr

    Re: Insurance - rising premiums

I phoned Pet Plan yesterday about my £80 + increase and it was due to the fact that I got a 20% discount for my first year, so it really only went up by £10 this year. So watch out for the 'lets get you on board' incentives when you come to renew your policy in a years time, I totally forgot as I can barely remember what happened yesterday let alone a year ago ::) Just something to think about. xx
