Well we have had a very successful day today, Jack and Barney have finally mastered 'down' from sitting. Jack is very reluctant to be trained (a case of CBA lol), but Barney loves it (very food orientated!). We have also gone back to basics with lead walking as they decided to compete with each other and try to run and pull all the time, ending up sounding like asthmatics! Today we tried using a collar rather than a harness, and while I was nervous as it wasn't so secure, they walked so much better on it. We took them separately, and Jack particularly was like a different dog! Actually walking slowly! We have struggled to find any training classes anywhere nearby, but have found some for dogs 20 weeks+ that start in a couple of weeks so we are going to give them a go. They are very good to be fair, but they have left their mark on the garden, Japanese maple tree trashed ✅ Several huge holes in lawn ✅ gaps in hedge for escaping through ✅ Hole dug underneath bird feeder to catch what the birds drop! ✅ and finally, socks, balls, and every puppy toy we own strewn all over the lawns ✅ Well we did say it was a boring house without a lab ;D Lou x
Re: A successful day (and a couple more pics) I can so relate to the pulling. I don't have two dogs the same age but I do have a nine year old who should be pulling a sled. I walk Cupar on his own most of the time as he can't do the big walks yet. He's a sweety when he walks on a lead on his own, but if I take both dogs Cupar thinks he's part of Cassies sled team. i can also relate to the lack of training classes. I phoned about classes for the puppies up to a year old and when I said I had a five month old labrador, I was asked his size, I said cocker spaniel size and was told it would maybe be better if we went to the 1 year and above plus rescues class. We never went. Oh and one more thing both of my darlings like to garden , they're really good at it. So if Jack and Barney need any tips on gardening I send Cassie along.

Re: A successful day (and a couple more pics) I'm really excited, we tried to contact a local KC/APDT registered training class and couldn't get hold of anyone, but i've just noticed that their email address is misspelt on their website, so i emailed them again and they have replied already! They have a beginners class starting in two weeks, and they are only 5 miles away. We almost signed up with another we had found that was almost 20 miles away and £15 per pup more for the six week course. We have decided that i will be Barney's trainer, as he displays slightly more challenging behaviour and i want to be sure i can control him when he's fully grown, Jack is much more placid and biddable and my OH is going to be his trainer. We will stick to this for all their training now so that they don't get confused while they're learning. I'm also thinking if buying a couple of clickers for them, as Jack doesn't seem interested in treat rewards, so maybe he will respond better to a clicker. lou x

The only issues we have had with them I am convinced we would have had if they weren't litter mates, its just down to having two puppies at the same age and on the same wavelength at the same time, so they are always interested in a chase and we have regular Mexican stand offs resulting in a mad chase round the garden for 10 minutes, i will try and video it at some point, it is hilarious to watch.
