As you may have read on one of my other posts, Bob has had a bit of a runny tummy over the past few days. Tonight (7.00pm) we gave him rice & chicken for his dinner.. It wasn't much, just a few scraps from our roast chicken and 2 big spoons of rice. Well since then he's basically been asleep. OH and I have been waiting up to take him out for his last toilet... but he's sparko!

It may be a reaction to the food perhaps? Just he feels a bit full? We are both thinking now we may end up with a wakey uppy puppy in the middle of the night at this rate! I might give him a prod in a bit.... We tried earlier but he just looked at us, turned round went back to sleep!

I suspect it is quite normal.

When Pongo sleeps, he SLEEPS. Most nights are like tonight. He is by my feet SSNNNOOORRRIINNNGGG. In a minute I'm going to try to wake him up to go out for his night-time wee and poo. I know that this is probably going to involve:
1 Kneeling over him and calling his name in his ear. There won't be any reaction.
2 Rolling him onto his back and rubbing his tummy. All through this he will play dead. "I'm asleep, I'm asleep, you can't wake me up". We can put his limbs in any position we like and he just lies there like a bendy doll. "I'm asleep, go away".
3 Going into the kitchen and noisily opening the treat tin to get out his night-time snack. That MIGHT result in an ear-twitch, but no guarantee.
4 Back to him and lock my hands under his belly. Lift him up as a floppy dead weight. Once he is upright and his feet brushing the floor he usually gives in and admits he is, in fact, awake now. He will stand up and give the most enormous stretch, give me a long-suffering look and slowly come outside with me.

Step 4 is quite a challenge because at 10 months he now weights 36kg.

So my guess is that Bob is just a normal, sleepy puppy!

    Rosie (and the Great Snorer).

Sleeping puppy! Make the most of it. Between 9 and 11 from a fairly early age Holly has a pre sleep nap and generally doesn't want to do anything. The first few nights that was happening were odd but it's now cup of tea time for us which is much nicer without a pup trying to steal the sugar from the tea.

No snoring for us tonight, but she seems to be chasing something quite hard as the wee paw is waving about all over the place.

Tee hee Rosie! I guess we should just make the most of it then! I'm hoping that the chicken and rice will settle his tum. We've just taken him out for a wee and he's laid back down again, so think OH and I are going to make a run for it upstairs!

Possibly the chicken and rice means that this is the first time for ages his tummy has felt really comfortable - so he is fast asleep!

Actually rather well in the end... he eventually settled and slept from 11pm to 4am! He started crying at 6.30am so went down again and let him out then gave him his breakfast.. so pretty good. Although he had the runniest poo after breakfast :( He's on chicken and rice today as well... I might call the vet if his next poo hasn't improved... bit worried really.

Well I am glad the night wasn't too bad after all!

Much better to call the vet for a chat rather than to sit worrying - specially with the little 'uns. :)

I just called the vet and they suggested I bring him back for a check up because he's so young... so will do that later this afternoon. There is a drop in clinic from 2-3pm just round the corner from us. Bob seems alright in himself tbh, quite lively and drinking lots... let's hope it's nothing serious.

Hi Naya, the vet said he was OK.. took his temp etc, listened to his heart and felt his tummy... He has put on 1.1kg since last Monday which is a good sign too. She said to keep him on chicken and rice for a couple more days and if no improvement to take in a sample for them to analyse. So I'm not stressing too much. He pooed at 6.30am and then didn't all day until 9pm tonight (very runny)... so we'll have to see I guess. We are giving him Jacobs cream crackers for his treats now instead of kibble.. she said to avoid it completely.

Thanks for asking after him :)

Glad to hear the vet isn't concerned :) fingers crossed the chicken and rice help settle his tum. I went through months of it when Harley was younger - she is allergic to wheat and has a very sensitive tummy!

I'm glad the vet isn't too concerned, but I look forward to hearing the news that everything's normal. Poor little man, it mustn't be comfortable.
